Ecological Uprising
Ecological Uprising ( sr-cyr, Еколошки устанак, Ekološki ustanak, EU) was a political and protest movement in Serbia that gained presence during the 2021–2022 Serbian environmental protests. It was led by Aleksandar Jovanović Ćuta, who was elected to the National Assembly of Serbia at the head of We Must (''Moramo'') coalition in the 2022 Serbian parliamentary election. On 11 June 2022, the movement was merged into a new political party called Together (''Zajedno!''). History Formation According to Together's website, the Ecological Uprising was formed in 2019. The Ecological Uprising movement grew out of a series of environmental actions in Serbia in 2021. Aleksandar Jovanović Ćuta
Aleksandar Jovanović ( sr-Cyrl, Александар Јовановић; born 30 September 1966), commonly known by his nickname Ćuta, is a Serbian environmental activist and politician who has been a member of the National Assembly of Serbia since August 2022. Born in Belgrade, Ćuta often stayed at Stara Planina, a mountain in Eastern Serbia, and was interested in rock music, football, and chess during his youth. He founded the "Defend the Rivers of Stara Planina" organisation in 2017, which primarily concentrated on combating the construction of small hydros in the Stara Planina region, although over time, Ćuta shifted his presence over other regions of Serbia. He gained recognition in the media and has been noted as one of the representatives of environmental activism in Serbia. Jadar (Drina)
The Jadar ( sr-Cyrl, Јадар, ) is a river in western Serbia, 75 km long right tributary of the Drina river. The Jadar also gives the name to the Jadar (Serbia), Jadar region of western Serbia. Also, the mineral Jadarite is named after the river. River The Jadar originates from the southern slopes of the Vlašić (Serbian mountain), Vlašić mountain, northeast of the town of Valjevo, in the northeastern tip of the Podgorina region. Several streams flow south and join near the village of Osladić. Soon, at the village of Dragijevica, the Jadar turns sharply to the northwest, a general direction the river will follow until it meets the Drina. 2022 Serbian General Election
General elections were held in Serbia on 3 April 2022 to elect both the president and members of the National Assembly. Initially, parliamentary elections were scheduled to be held in 2024; however, in October 2020 president Aleksandar Vučić stated that snap parliamentary elections would be held in or before April 2022. In addition to the general elections, local elections were held simultaneously in 12 municipalities and 2 cities, including Belgrade. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) came to power in 2012 after forming a government with the Socialist Party of Serbia. Biljana Stojković
Biljana Stojković ( sr-cyrl, Биљана Стојковић; born 6 October 1972) is a Serbian biologist, activist, and professor at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Biology. Stojković was the candidate of the We Must coalition in the 2022 presidential election. Early life Stojković was born on 6 October 1972 in Belgrade, SR Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia. She attended the Zemun Gymnasium, and in 1991, she enrolled into the Faculty of Biology at the University of Belgrade. She graduated in 1996, and in 1999 she received her master's degree. At one point, Stojković stayed in Switzerland in 1999, and there, she was offered to finish her postgraduate studies at the University of Basel, although she declined the offer and instead, she finished the studies in Belgrade. Aleksandar Vučić ( sr-Cyrl, Александар Вучић, ; born 5 March 1970) is a Serbian politician serving as the president of Serbia since 2017, and as the president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) since 2012. Nebojša Zelenović ( sr-cyr, Небојша Зеленовић; born 15 July 1975) is a Serbian politician who served as mayor of Šabac from 2014 to 2020. A former member of the Democratic Party, he presided over the Together for Serbia party from 2016 to 2022, and is now a co-leader of the Together party. Do not let Belgrade drown ( sr-Cyrl, Не давимо Београд, Ne davimo Beograd, NDB) is a green political organisation in Serbia. A grassroots movement formed in 2014, aimed at criticising and reforming the current political system through "involving citizens in the development of their environment" and transparency. The organisation is made up of a group of people of different profiles, professions, and beliefs interested in urban and cultural policies, sustainable urban development, and equitable use of shared resources. In October 2022, NDB announced that it would re-organise itself as a political party.
