Eckington School
Eckington School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Eckington, Derbyshire in England, next to the B6056 road. It has around 1,250 pupils. The school is an academy, and is part of the Chorus Education Trust. History Previous to the opening of the school, there was the Eckington County Secondary School, which opened in Halfway (in Derbyshire before 1967) in 1930, and became the Eckington Grammar School in 1945. In Eckington was also the Eckington Secondary Modern School on ''School Street''; when the grammar school became Derbyshire's first comprehensive school - the Westfield School - in 1957, this became Eckington Junior School. Adam Duffy (born 30 March 1989) is an English professional snooker player. Duffy qualified for the 2011–12 professional Main Tour as one of four semi-finalists from the third and final Q School event. Ruth Amos
Ruth Amos (born 1989) is a British entrepreneur and inventor of the StairSteady. The StairSteady is an aid to enable people with limited mobility to use their stairs confidently and safely. Amos designed it as part of a GCSE resistant materials project as a response to her teacher’s challenge to design an aid for people with limited mobility to use their stairs. She was prompted to do this as the father of one of her teachers had recently had a stroke. Her product was launched in April 2008 at Naidex, a national healthcare show, and StairSteady ltd started trading September 2008. Amos won the 2006 Young Engineer of the Year award in Britain with her idea. Millie Bright (born 21 August 1993) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for Chelsea and the England national team. While She Sleeps are a British metalcore band from Sheffield. Formed in 2006, the group consists of vocalist Lawrence Taylor, guitarists Sean Long and Mat Welsh, bassist Aaran McKenzie and drummer Adam Savage. Chris Pritchard (born 2 January 1983) was a professional cyclist who has competed on the track and the road. Born in Sheffield, England, Pritchard took up competitive cycling at the age of 25 after previously racing motorcycles. The General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level, or A Level, is a main school leaving qualification in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. It is available as an alternative qualification in other countries. Students generally study for A levels over a two-year period. For much of their history, A levels have been examined by "terminal" examinations taken at the end of these two years.
