Jackie DeShannon (born Sharon Lee Myers, August 21, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter and radio broadcaster with a string of hit song credits from the 1960s onwards, as both singer and composer. Shocking Blue
Shocking Blue was a Dutch rock band formed in 1967 in The Hague. It was part of the music movement in the Netherlands that was generally known by the name Nederbeat. The band had a number of hits throughout the counterculture movement during the 1960s and early 1970s, including "Send Me a Postcard" and "Venus", which became their biggest hit and reached number one on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and many other countries during 1969 and 1970. ''Single Girl'' is a song written by Martha Sharp. It was an international hit for American singer Sandy Posey from late 1966 to early 1967. The song Like ''Born a Woman'', which was also written by Martha Sharp, ''Single Girl'' contained some sentiments that were ostensibly skeptical of men (for example, "I know all about men and their lies"). "I'm Not Sayin' is a song written by Gordon Lightfoot. It was recorded in December 1964 and released as a single A-side in 1965 and on his 1966 debut album ''Lightfoot!''. The lyrics detail the singer's promise: not that he can necessarily love the subject, or be true to the subject, but only that he can try to do so. The single peaked at #12 in Canada in June 1965. ''Cash Box'' described it as "a rhythmic, folkish ode about a guy who refuses to make any romantic promises to his girlfriend." In late May 1965, Nico recorded a version of the song released on Immediate Records. Her version is stylistically reminiscent of the work of Marianne Faithfull. The single only garnered limited success. This version of the song features Jimmy Page, then a studio musician, on the 12-string guitar.
