Echo Bluff State Park
Echo Bluff State Park (4.6 out of 5 stars) is a public recreation area comprising of land in Newton Township, Shannon County, Missouri, United States. The state park occupies the site of former Camp Zoe, a summer camp for children that opened in 1929. The park was named for the massive cliff that towers over one side of Sinking Creek. History The state acquired the former Camp Zoe site at auction from the federal government in 2013 for $640,000. An additional 80 acres was purchased for $455,000. Some $52 million was spent building a new lodge, playground, campgrounds, pavilions, and cabins. Federal grant money totalling $10.5 million helped pay for improving area roads and creating a new bridge over Sinking Creek. The park opened to the public on July 30, 2016. Shannon County is a county in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,031. Its county seat is Eminence. The county was officially organized on January 29, 1841, and was named in honor of George F. "Peg-Leg" Shannon, a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It is the second-largest county by area in Missouri. Missouri's first copper mine was opened in Shannon County in 1846 and Missouri's only manganese mine was opened here during World War II. Sinking Creek (Current River Tributary)
Sinking Creek is a stream in Dent, Reynolds and Shannon counties in the Ozarks of southeast Missouri. It is a tributary of the Current River. The stream headwaters are at and the confluence with the Current is at . The source area for the stream lies in western Reynolds County in the area just south of Missouri Route 72. The stream flows south through southeastern Dent County and passing under Missouri Route A and into northeast Shannon County. The stream meanders southwest roughly paralleling Route A then veering south-southwest to its confluence with the Current River just after passing under Missouri Route 19 north of Round Spring. Sinking Creek is one of the main features of Echo Bluff State Park, established in 2016. Park visitors often swim, wade, and float in the cool waters and swimming holes of the stream. Schwagstock
Schwagstock is a music festival that takes place over the course of a weekend in an outdoor setting, and is intended to carry on the vibe of the Woodstock festival. Food, trinkets, glassware, carvings, beads, blankets, tie-dye clothing, and many other handmade and hippie-appeal items are available for sale by individual vendors. Attendees are allowed to camp anywhere they wish on the campgrounds, and may choose to set up tents or to camp in their vehicles instead. Music is scheduled such that there are several overlapping live music acts between the main stage and the sideshow(s) from early afternoon until early morning. Past Schwagstocks have been held at Lesterville, Leasburg and Bagnell Dam in Missouri, and in Iowa, but as of 2004 all Schwagstocks are held at Camp Zoe, south of Salem, Shannon County, Missouri.
