''Echelon'' is a video game originally published in 1987 by Access Software. Gameplay ''Echelon'' is a game in which the player pilots a C-104 Combat Exploration Vehicle to find a base that has been used by pirates on the planet Isis in the year 2096. The PC version uses Access's RealSound technology. Reception Hosea Battles reviewed the Commodore 64 version for ''Computer Gaming World'', stating that "If you like arcade action, flight simulation, space combat, exploration, mystery, and adventure, this game is for you". Access Software
Access Software, Inc. was an American video game developer based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Founded in November 1982 by Bruce Carver and Chris Jones, the company created the '' Beach Head'', '' Links'' and ''Tex Murphy'' series, as well as '' Raid over Moscow''. Access Software was acquired by Microsoft in April 1999, transitioning in name twice before being acquired by Take-Two Interactive in October 2004, receiving the name Indie Built. In January 2005, Access Software became part of Take-Two's 2K label. Following a poor financial performance at Take-Two, Indie Built was closed down in May 2006. TruGolf, a company that develops indoor golf simulators, was formerly a subsidiary of Access Software based on the display technology they had made for the ''Links'' games and spun out to its own company during the Microsoft acquisition. ''Compute!'s Gazette'' (), stylized as ''COMPUTE!'s Gazette'', was a computer magazine of the 1980s, directed at users of Commodore's 8-bit home computers. Announced as ''The Commodore Gazette'', it was a Commodore-only daughter magazine of the computer hobbyist magazine ''Compute!''. It was first published in July 1983. It contained both standard articles and type-in programs. Many of these programs were quite long and sophisticated. To assist in entry, ''Gazette'' published several utilities. The Automatic Proofreader provided checksum capabilities for BASIC programs, while machine language listings could be entered with MLX. Starting in May 1984, a companion disk with each issue's programs was available to subscribers for an extra fee. Perhaps its most popular and enduring type-in application was the ''SpeedScript'' word processor. A space flight simulation is a genre of flight simulator video games that lets players experience space flight to varying degrees of realism. Common mechanics include space exploration, space trade and space combat. Overview Some games in the genre aim to recreate a realistic portrayal of space flight, involving the calculation of orbits within a more complete physics simulation than pseudo space flight simulators. Others focus on gameplay rather than simulating space flight in all its facets.
