Ecclesfield F.C. was an English association football club based in Ecclesfield, South Yorkshire. History The club was founded in 1873, at a time when football in the area was played to the Sheffield Football Association laws. Ecclesfield played at least 16 matches in its first season, although its game with Hallam was not finished after Hallam disputed a foul. Ecclesfield did not enter the Sheffield Cup in 1876, but did reach the final in 1880–81, against Sheffield Wednesday at Bramall Lane. Ecclesfield undertook a course of special training for the match, and "for nearly three hours a continuous stream of spectators passed along the Pitsmoor Road" from the village. Ecclesfield took the lead after goalkeeper Stacey misjudged a shot from C. Cutts, and Hulley had a tap-in. The FA Cup, from this season onwards, began to incorporate a series of qualifying rounds in order to determine qualifiers for the actual Cup competition itself. The qualifying rounds were made up of amateur teams, semi-professional teams, and professional sides not yet associated with the Football League. The only game to be played on Christmas Day took place, Linfield Athletic beating Cliftonville 7–0. Barnsley () is a market town in South Yorkshire, England. As the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and the fourth largest settlement in South Yorkshire. In Barnsley, the population was 96,888 while the wider Borough has seen an increase of 5.8%, from 231,200 in 2011 census to 244,600 in 2021 census. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is located between the cities of Sheffield, Manchester, Doncaster, Wakefield, and Leeds. The larger towns of Rotherham and Huddersfield are nearby. Kilnhurst is a village in South Yorkshire, England, on the banks of the River Don and the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation. It grew up around the coal mining, ceramics, glass, brick-making and locomotive industries; none of these industries remain in the village. Residents The sculptor Charles Sargeant Jagger was born in the village in 1885, followed by his painter brother David in 1891. They were the sons of a colliery manager.
