Adolph Olson Eberhart
Adolph Olson Eberhart (June 30, 1870 – December 6, 1944) was an American politician, who served as the 17th Governor of Minnesota. Background Adolph Olson Eberhart was born in Kil, in Värmland, Sweden, the son of Andrew and Louise Olson. Because of bad economic conditions, Andrew, Louise and all of the family except Adolph emigrated to St. Peter, Minnesota. In 1882, Adolph joined the family there. Eberhart graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota (1895) and studied law in a law office in Mankato, Minnesota. Career Eberhart was a member of the Minnesota State Senate from January 1903 to January 1907. He was elected the 17th Lieutenant Governor in 1906. He became the 17th Governor of Minnesota on September 21, 1909, when Governor John Albert Johnson died, and served until January 5, 1915. Eberhart was a Republican. Mark Evan Eberhart is an author and a professor of chemistry and geochemistry at the Colorado School of Mines. Education and career Eberhart holds a BS in chemistry and in applied mathematics from the University of Colorado, an MS in physical biochemistry from the University of Colorado, and a PhD in materials science and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, supervised by Keith H. Johnson and earned in 1983. He became a scientist in the Materials Science and Technology Division of the Los Alamos National Laboratory before moving to the Colorado School of Mines in 1992. At the School of Mines, he has been president of the faculty senate; he has also been a Jefferson Science Fellow. Meredith J. Eberhart, widely known by his nickname Nimblewill Nomad, is an American perpetual hiker and has been the focus of various news stories. As of November 2021, he is considered the oldest person, at 83 years old, to have completely hiked the of the entire Appalachian Trail. Eberhart published a book about one of his long-distance hikes, and, as of 2021, was settled at Flagg Mountain, Alabama. ''Mignon'' is an 1866 ''opéra comique'' (or opera in its second version) in three acts by Ambroise Thomas. The original French libretto was by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, based on Goethe's 1795-96 novel '' Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre''. The Italian version was translated by Giuseppe Zaffira. The opera is mentioned in James Joyce's " The Dead" (''Dubliners'') and Willa Cather's '' The Professor's House''. Thomas's goddaughter Mignon Nevada was named after the main character. Ralph Edward "Ed" Eberhart (born December 6, 1946) is a retired four-star general in the United States Air Force (USAF). He served as the commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and United States Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. He was in charge of NORAD during the September 11 attacks in 2001. Biography Eberhart entered the USAF in 1968 as a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, having been the cadet wing commander during his senior year. Eberhart Jensen (22 July 1922 – 16 January 2003) was a Norwegian astrophysicist. He was born in Røyken as a son of farmer Edvard Jensen (1850–1930) and Berthe Marie Kristiansen (1883–1961). He finished his secondary education in 1942 and graduated from the University of Oslo with the cand.real. degree in 1949. During the occupation of Norway, after the 1943 University of Oslo fire, he was arrested together with a thousand students and sent to Stavern. In December he was shipped on to Sennheim, later Buchenwald. He survived until the camp was liberated. In 1948 he married Liv Linnestad. He took his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago in 1953, and was hired as lecturer at the University of Oslo in 1959 and docent in 1961. His fields were mainly solar physics and plasma physics. ''The Stepford Wives'' is a 1972 satirical "feminist horror" novel by Ira Levin.
