Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare F.C.
Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare Football Club are a Scottish football club, based in the Midlothian town of Easthouses. The team currently plays in the , having moved from the junior leagues in 2018. The club was formed in 1950, following the establishment of the Easthouses Colliery earlier in the 20th century. Home matches are played at Newbattle Complex. In May 2019 the club became a full member of Scottish Football Association. History Original Junior club Easthouses Lily F.C. were originally formed in 1950 and competed in the Edinburgh and District Junior League, a forerunner of today's East Region Junior leagues. Their first season as a Junior club was 1950–51 and was their best, finishing as runners-up to Newtongrange Star in the Mid/East Division, with Star going onto lift the Championship after beating West Division winners Camelon Juniors in the play-off. Easthouses
Easthouses is a settlement in Midlothian, Scotland, lying to the east of Newtongrange and south of Dalkeith. It forms the northern extension of the settlement of Mayfield, with which it is closely associated; the two communities have a combined population of around 7,900. Primarily based on public housing, Easthouses developed in the 1920s to accommodate miners for the nearby Easthouses Colliery, many of whom relocated from the west of Scotland. The settlement was significantly extended in the 1950s. Employment has diversified since the closure of local mines, with many of the population now commuting to Edinburgh. The Easthouses Parish Church (built 1954) is of minor architectural interest. The Scottish Welfare Football Association (SWFA) is an affiliated association of the Scottish Football Association. It was formed at the end of the First World War to boost morale among factory workers. Historically, over 500 clubs competed in Welfare competitions; however, this has dwindled over the years to fewer than 200 currently. The association oversees competitions mainly operating Sunday and summer or midweek football, predominantly in the North of Scotland. After failing to win anything the previous season, Rangers won the Scottish Cup and League Cup under their new manager Alex McLeish. Airdrieonians, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League as First Division runners-up, went out of business of 1 May with debts of nearly £3million. The 1998–99 season was the 102nd season of Scottish league football. League competitions Scottish Premier League Summary The 1998–99 SPL season was one that ended in success for Rangers. Dutchman Dick Advocaat was brought in to replace Walter Smith at Rangers and made major changes, bringing in many players. Rangers were comfortable for most of the season, being top for most of it. Their main low of the season was a 5–1 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead. After beating Aberdeen 3–1 at Ibrox on 25 April, Rangers had a chance to clinch the title at Parkhead on 2 May. Rangers did what they wanted to do with a 3–0 victory. Two goals from Neil McCann and a Jorg Albertz penalty gave Rangers their 100th league victory over Celtic.
