Eastfield is a town and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. It was often considered a suburb of the town of Scarborough, and is located next to the town's boundaries. It was granted town status in January 2016. According to the 2011 UK census, Eastfield parish had a population of 5,610, a reduction on the 2001 UK census figure of 5,863. The town council is Eastfield Town Council. The area has a mid-size Industrial Park (Olympian Trading Park), the rapidly expanding Scarborough Business Park, and Plaxton Park is on the outskirts of Eastfield. The area is the base for a number of large businesses, for example Plaxton, Raflatac, Unison, Cooplands and Dale Power Solutions. The largest factory in the vicinity is McCain Foods. Boyes, a discount department store chain which has over 60 stores across the north has its head office and warehouse facilities here. Boyes (retailer)
Boyes is a chain of department stores in England. William Boyes founded the firm in 1881 in Scarborough, North Yorkshire and it has been run by generations of the Boyes family ever since. The company's slogan is "for good value" and the stores specialise in the discount retail sector, stocking a mixture of regular lines, one-off special purchases and clearance items. Boyes stores stock over 30,000 products over a large range including household products, fashion and footwear. Its full trading name is W Boyes and Co. ''The Guardian'' is a British daily newspaper. It was founded in 1821 as ''The Manchester Guardian'', and changed its name in 1959. Yorkshire Coast Radio was a local radio station serving Scarborough, Whitby & Bridlington. The station was folded into Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire, as part of a rebrand, on 1 September 2020. History For many years, several businessmen in Scarborough had campaigned for their own local radio station. A licence was advertised in 1991 and contested by three groups. The winning consortium, Yorkshire Coast Radio Limited, was founded by radio executive and former presenter Paul Rusling with backing from former Conservative MP Wilf Proudfoot, who served as managing director for short-lived pirate station Radio 270, which was based in the town. After the franchise was awarded, YCR was bought out by Minster Sound plc – the owners of neighbouring York-based station Minster FM, which began broadcasting in July 1992. Scarborough (borough)
The Borough of Scarborough () is a non-metropolitan district and borough of North Yorkshire, England. In addition to the town of Scarborough, it covers a large stretch of the coast of Yorkshire, including Whitby and Filey. It borders Redcar and Cleveland to the north, the Ryedale and Hambleton districts to the west and the East Riding of Yorkshire to the south. The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972.
