Eastern Victoria Region
Eastern Victoria Region is one of the eight electoral regions of Victoria, Australia, which elects five members to the Victorian Legislative Council (also referred to as the upper house) by proportional representation. The region was created in 2006 following the 2005 reform of the Victorian Legislative Council. The region comprises the Legislative Assembly districts of Bass, Evelyn, Gippsland East, Gippsland South, Hastings, Monbulk, Mornington, Morwell, Narracan, Nepean and Pakenham. Melina Bath
Melina Gaye Bath (born 18 December 1966) is an Australian politician and former schoolteacher, who is a Nationals member of the Victorian Legislative Council representing the Eastern Victoria Region. Bath studied a science degree and diploma of education at the University of Melbourne and was a mathematics and science teacher at Mirboo North Secondary College. Prior to teaching, she ran a health food store in Leongatha for twelve years. In March 2015, she was preselected by the National Party to replace Danny O'Brien, who had resigned his seat in the Legislative Council's Eastern Victoria Region to contest the lower house seat of Gippsland South at the 2015 Gippsland South state by-election, following the retirement of the long-standing MP, Peter Ryan. Electoral District Of Hastings
The electoral district of Hastings is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was created prior to the 2002 election due to population increases in Melbourne's outer south east. It covers Hastings, Tyabb, Somerville, Bittern and part of Langwarrin. French Island is also included within the electoral boundary. 2010 Victorian State Election
The 2010 Victorian state election, held on Saturday, 27 November 2010, was for the 57th Parliament of Victoria. The election was to elect all 88 members of the Legislative Assembly and all 40 members of the Legislative Council. The incumbent centre-left Labor Party government, led by John Brumby, was defeated by the centre-right Liberal/National Coalition opposition, led by Ted Baillieu. The election gave the Coalition a one-seat majority in both houses of parliament. Voting is compulsory in Victoria. Elections for the Legislative Assembly use instant-runoff voting (called preferential voting in Australia) in single-member electorates (called districts). Peter Hall (politician)
Peter Ronald Hall (born 27 May 1952) is an Australian retired politician. He was a National member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1988 to 2014, representing Gippsland Province (1988–2006) and the Eastern Victoria Region (2006–2014). Early life and education Hall was born and raised in Castlemaine, Victoria. He graduated from Castlemaine High School in 1969 and moved to Melbourne to attend university. He graduated from Monash University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts and completed a Diploma of Education the following year. Football career He showed promise as an Australian rules football player as a young person, being the best and fairest for the Castlemaine Football Club in 1969, at only 17 years of age. While studying teaching at Monash University in Melbourne, Hall made his debut for the Carlton Football Club in what was then the Victorian Football League (now named the Australian Football League). Edward John O'Donohue (born 1 May 1974) is a former member of the Victorian Legislative Council for the Liberal Party. O'Donohue was elected to the Eastern Victoria Region at the 2006 election. Johan Scheffer
Johan Emiel Scheffer (born February 7th, 1948) is a former member of the Victorian Legislative Council for the Labor Party. Scheffer is chair of the Victorian government agency Sustainability Victoria. He was originally elected to the Legislative Council in 2002 for Monash Province, becoming only the second Labor member to represent that electorate since its creation in 1937. When Monash Province was abolished in 2006, he was successful in winning one of the five seats in the newly created Eastern Victoria Region of the Legislative Council. Matthew Shaw Viney (born 28 July 1954, in Melbourne, Victoria), is a Labor Party politician, and a former member of the Victorian Legislative Council for the Eastern Victoria Region. Viney was first elected to the Frankston East electorate during the 1999 Frankston East By-election, which was one of the factors in Steve Bracks winning a minority government. Frankston East was abolished in the following election and Viney was elected to Chelsea Province in the 2002 Victorian state elections. 2006 Victorian State Election
The 2006 Victorian state election, held on Saturday, 25 November 2006, was for the 56th Parliament of Victoria. Just over 3 million Victorians registered to vote elected 88 members to the Legislative Assembly and, for the first time, 40 members to the Legislative Council under a proportional representation system (Single transferable voting). The election was conducted by the independent Victorian Electoral Commission. The Labor Party government of Premier Steve Bracks, first elected in 1999, won a third consecutive term with 55 of the 88 lower house seats, down seven from the 62 Labor won in 2002. Electoral district of Pakenham is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It was recreated in the redistribution of electoral boundaries in 2021, and was re-contested at the 2022 Victorian state election.
