It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kic ... competition for teams affiliated to the East Kerry division. All 13 clubs in the division are eligible to compete in this championship, they must compete with their 'B'(Junior) team. A 'B' player is defined as any player who is not a member of the Kerry inter-county panel at senior, junior or under-21 level in the current year, or a player who starts on the first 15 of his club's O'Donoghue Cup ( East Kerry Senior Football Championship) team in the current year. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. The East Kerry Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association caters for 13 Gaelic football clubs and 1 hurling club in the East Kerry division of the GAA county of Kerry. History Early Years The East Kerry Board was founded in 1925 following a decision to sub-divide Kerry into a number of divisions. The first chairman and secretary were football legends Dick Fitzgerald and Paul Russell. The first meeting of the new Board was attended by delegates from eight clubs; Currow, Farranfore, Firies, Headford, Kenmare, Killarney, Kilcummin and Killorglin. In 1931, Ballymacelligott, Cordal, Currow, Farranfore and Scartaglin broke away from the Division and joined with Castleisland to form the Castleisland District League. In 1947, Laune Rangers, Castlemaine, Milltown, Tuogh and Glenbeigh broke away with Beaufort to form the Mid Kerry League. The East Kerry Senior Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition for teams affiliated to the East Kerry division. Most adult clubs in the division compete for this cup, even if they are playing at junior or intermediate grades. In recent years, the competition has been dominated by Dr Crokes, who won their thirtieth championship in December 2018. The winners receive the Dr O'Donoghue Cup. Dr Crokes is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in Killarney in County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Notable players include Colm Cooper. Founded in 1886, the club's successes include the capture of the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship in 1992 and 2016–17 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship, 2017. Fossa GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Fossa, County Kerry, Ireland. The club is concerned with the game of Gaelic football. It is a member of the East Kerry GAA board. History Located four miles west of Killarney, County Kerry, Fossa GAA Club was founded on 11 January 1970. The club leased a field from the nearby Liebherr firm in 1972 and the following year fielded its first senior team in the East Kerry League and Championship and in Division 4 of the County League. Gneeveguilla are a Gaelic football team from County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Fitzgerald Stadium ( ga, Staid a' Ghearaltaigh) is the principal GAA stadium in Killarney, Ireland, and is the home championship venue for the Kerry senior football team. Spa GAA is a Gaelic football club based in Tullig, Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland. Founded in 1948, the club gets its name from a spa well in the townland of Tullig close to Killarney. Killarney Legion GAA
Killarney Legion are a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland. The club was founded on a March evening in 1929 when a group of eleven men held a meeting in the then Temperance Hall in High Street, Killarney. History In the Kerry Senior Football Championship, Legion reached the 3rd round by beating John Mitchels of Tralee 0-16 to 1-6, then losing to rivals Dr. Crokes 1-16 to 0-9. Legion now have a new state of the art clubhouse and have just commenced the development of a stand aligning the southern side of the main pitch. The stature of the juvenile section of the club is at an all-time high at present.
