The East India Film Company was an Indian film production company, based in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India. It was the first Indian film company to screen a movie at an international film festival. Started in 1932 in Calcutta, by R. L. Khemka, it went on to be a pioneer in producing films across the several regional film industries, including Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Telugu, and Tamil, in the decade after its founding; till then, production companies were restricted regionally. History The company was formed in 1932 by R. L. Khemka, a local Marwari businessman in Bengal, after acquiring the RCA Photophone studio, its location recording equipment, and its Mitchell Cameras. In 1933, East India Film Company's first Bengali film production, ''Jamuna Puline'', was released, with Priyanath Ganguli as the director after he left the Madan Theatre. The Cinema of India consists of motion pictures produced in India, which had a large effect on world cinema since the late 20th century. The Cinema of South India refers collectively to the six distinct film industries based in Southern region of India namely Tamil, Telugu, Tulu, Kannada, Konkani, and Malayalam. Although these industries developed independently for a long period of time, gross exchange of artists and technicians, as well as globalisation helped in shaping this unique identity. ''Sunehra Sansar'' is a 1975 Bollywood film directed by Adurthi Subba Rao. It stars Rajendra Kumar, with Mala Sinha as his wife, and Hema Malini as his past love, who has re-entered his life to seek vengeance for abandoning her years ago. The film is a remake of a Telugu film titled Pandanti Kapuram (1972). In the annals of Hindi cinema, this movie, though not a commercial success, is unique for three reasons. First, it features music by Naushad, collaborating for the first time with the lyricist Anand Bakshi. Vemuri Gaggaiah
Vemuri Gaggayya (1895–1955) was an Indian actor, singer, and thespian known for his works in Telugu cinema, and Telugu theatre. In 1933, East India Film Company produced its first Indian film, '' Savitri'' in Telugu. Shot in Calcutta on a budget of 75,000 and based on a popular stage play by Mylavaram Bala Bharathi Nataka Samajam, the film was directed by the father of the "Telugu Theater Movement", Chittajallu Pullayya, casting Vemuri Gaggayya and Dasari Ramathilakam as "Yama" and " Savithri" respectively. The blockbuster film has received an honorary diploma at Venice Film Festival.
