Earthquake In Chile (film)
''Earthquake in Chile'' (german: Das Erdbeben in Chili) is a 1975 West German television drama film directed by Helma Sanders-Brahms. The film is an adaptation of the Heinrich von Kleist novella '' The Earthquake in Chile''. Plot Handsome Jeronimo Rugera is hired to tutor the rich heiress, Josephe Asteron. They fall in love, yet the church forbids their relationship, and Josephe is hidden in a convent. When the church discovers she is pregnant, Josephe is sentenced to death by decapitation. Jeronimo tracks her down, yet is jailed before he can rescue her. When fate intervenes in the form of a massive earthquake, the two lovers have no idea what is in store for them. Sanders-Brahms uses a voice-over of the first and final sentences of the book, placing them at the beginning and end of the film. Helma Sanders-Brahms
Helma Sanders-Brahms (20 November 1940 – 27 May 2014) was a German film director, screenwriter and producer. Biography Helma Sanders was born on 20 November 1940 in Emden, Germany. She attended a school for acting in Hannover from 1960 to 1962, then majored in literature and drama at Cologne University. Her early career involved work as a hospital aide and an on-air announcer for the Cologne television station WDR-3. She produced documentaries and film shorts for the station. During a trip to Italy in 1967, she interned with film directors Pier Paolo Pasolini and Sergio Corbucci, a decisive experience in her choice to pursue film-making. Beginning in 1969, she made her own films, writing her own screenplays and producing many of her films herself. Her film-making comprised both fiction and documentary films, and many of her films contain a strong autobiographical component. Norbert Gastell (14 October 1929 – 26 November 2015) was a German actor who specialized in Dubbing (filmmaking), dubbing. He was born to German parents, but grew up in Argentina. He moved to Munich in 1938. Gastell was best known in Germany as the voice of Homer Simpson in the German version of ''The Simpsons'', which he provided since the series was first aired in 1991 until his death. He is also remembered for dubbing the character Trevor Ochmonek in the sitcom ''ALF (TV series), ALF'', Coach Ernie Pantusso, Coach Pantusso in ''Cheers'' and Cornelius Fudge in the Harry Potter (film series), ''Harry Potter'' films. Fernando Sánchez Polack (11 August 1920 – 24 January 1982) was a Spanish actor. He appeared in more than 110 films and television shows between 1959 and 1982, mostly of them as a supporting character in Spaghetti Western films.
