Tickets for all 21 nights were sold-out. The residency was announced at a press conference on 8 May 2007. It was nominally in support of his recently released ''Planet Earth'' album which had been distributed in the UK for free with copies of ''The Mail on Sunday'' newspaper on 15 July 2007, although the performances themselves primarily concentrated on earlier hits. Tickets for the concerts were priced at £31.21, echoing the title of Prince's 2006 album '' 3121''. The show featured Prince and his band playing "in the round" on a stage in the shape of Prince's iconic Love Symbol #2 in the centre of the arena, surrounded by the audience. The set list changed nightly as Prince used code-words to direct his band to his next song choice (from a list of 200 songs that they had rehearsed in advance ...

Take Me With U
"Take Me with U" is a song by Prince and the Revolution, and the final US single released from their album, '' Purple Rain'' (1984). Background The song is sung as a duet with Apollonia Kotero, and was originally intended to be performed by Vanity but shortly before filming began on the movie ''Purple Rain'', Vanity famously chose to quit participation in the film altogether when she was offered what appeared to be a lucrative contract with Motown Records exec Berry Gordy and began filming ''The Last Dragon'' (An early demo of the song exists with her vocals and has circulated on bootleg recordings by collectors.) and ceased her romantic relationship with Prince. The song was then intended for the ''Apollonia 6'' album to coincide with the film, but was pulled for the ''Purple Rain'' soundtrack. A result of this addition, Prince made cuts to the suite-like original "Computer Blue", which circulates among collectors in an extended version (a portion of this second section of " ...

The song is the opening track on their 1969 album ''Abbey Road'' and was also released as a single coupled with "Something". The song reached the top of the charts in the United States and peaked at No. 4 in the United Kingdom. It has been covered by several other artists, including Ike & Tina Turner, Aerosmith and Michael Jackson. Background and inspiration In early 1969, John Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, held nonviolent protests against the Vietnam War, dubbed the Bed-ins for Peace. In May, during the Montreal portion of the bed-in, counterculture figures from across North America visited Lennon, including American psychologist Timothy Leary, an early advocate of LSD, whom Lennon admired. 7 (Prince Song)
"7" is a song by American musician Prince and the New Power Generation, from their 1992 ''Love Symbol Album''. It was released in late 1992 as the third single from the album, and became the most successful in the United States. It features a sample of the 1967 Lowell Fulsom song "Tramp" and is composed of heavy drums and bass in an acoustic style. It has a distinct Middle Eastern style of music, and a Hindu reincarnation theme, and an opera-like chorus which features Prince's multi-tracked vocals. The lyrics have religious and apocalyptic themes. The song is ambiguous and can be interpreted in many ways, as the "7" mentioned in the chorus could be the song referring to the Seven Deadly Sins or the seven Archon of Gnosticism or the seven names of God in the Old Testament. The song received positive reviews and peaked within the top forty of many of its major markets. Critical reception Andy Healy from Albumism picked the song as a "standout" from the album, noting its "gloriou ...

Pink Cashmere
"Pink Cashmere" is a song by American musician Prince, released as a single from his 1993 compilations, '' The Hits 2'' and ''The Hits/The B-Sides''. In the US, the B-side was the 1978 track, "Soft and Wet", while Germany backed the song with the William Orbit remix of " The Future", originally issued as a single in 1990. In addition, Germany issued a 12" single and CD single for "Pink Cashmere". Both had the 1988 song "Glam Slam" as a B-side, and both contained two mixes of "Pink Cashmere", a vocal version and a guitar version. The 12" had "The Future" remix, but the CD replaced it with the 1985 song "Paisley Park". Critical reception Larry Flick from ''Billboard'' wrote, "Track is a complex puzzle of thrilling moments, starting with layers of falsetto crooning over a spare, midtempo beat. The arrangement blossoms with an infectious chorus that triggers a contrast of quasi-symphonic string passages and nimble, Hendrix-like guitar work." Troy J. Augusto from '' Cashbox'' described ...

If I Was Your Girlfriend
"If I Was Your Girlfriend" is the second single from American musician Prince's 1987 double album ''Sign o' the Times''. The song was a hit in the United Kingdom but was only a minor hit in America. It was originally from the '' Camille'' project of 1986, which was to be released under the guise of Prince's alter ego named Camille. The song is delivered from an androgynous male perspective to a woman, wherein Prince explores the possibilities of a more intimate relationship if he were his lover's platonic girlfriend. ''Trouser Press'' names the song as one of the album's highlights, noting that it "redefines a relationship in a surprisingly mature way." It is believed that "If I Was Your Girlfriend" deals with the jealousy Prince felt at the close bond shared between then girlfriend/fiancée Susannah Melvoin with her twin sister Wendy. Musically, the song features Prince's pitched-up, androgynous vocals over a sparse bass and drum machine pattern, punctuated by a keyboard line. ...

What A Wonderful World
"What a Wonderful World" is a song written by Bob Thiele (as "George Douglas") and George David Weiss. It was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released in 1967 as a single. It topped the pop chart in the United Kingdom, but performed poorly in the United States because Larry Newton, the president of ABC Records, disliked the song and refused to promote it. After it was heard in the film ''Good Morning, Vietnam'', it was reissued as a single in 1988, and rose to number 32 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Armstrong's recording was inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. Composition and production Thiele produced the track under his own name, but as a co-composer was initially credited under the pseudonym George Douglas. His real name has appeared on it from its 1988 issue onward. One source claims the song was first offered to Tony Bennett, who turned it down, although Louis Armstrong biographer Ricky Riccardi disputes this. In Graham Nash's book ''Off the Record: Son ...

Controversy (song)
"Controversy" is a song by American musician Prince, the lead single and title track to his 1981 album. The song addresses speculation about Prince at the time such as his sexuality, gender, religion, and racial background, and how he could not understand the curiosity surrounding him. Background The song has two main verses, a few choruses, with the title repeated throughout the track. Towards the middle he recites the Lord's Prayer in full, which fueled the fire for some to say the song was blasphemous. Toward the end is a repeating chant of "People call me rude / I wish we all were nude / I wish there was no black and white / I wish there were no rules." The song features a steady 4/4 drumbeat, synthesized bass, guitar, and keyboards. The song was backed with " When You Were Mine", from his previous album, ''Dirty Mind''. On November 29, 1993, in support of ''The Hits/The B-Sides'', "Controversy" was once again released in the UK as a single, this time as a two-disc EP co ...
