''Earth Defense Force'', known in Japan as , is a series of third-person shooter video games. The series is published by the Japanese company D3 Publisher as part of the ''Simple'' series. Story In 2013, radio waves from deep space are picked up by scientists, proving the existence of extraterrestrial life. The Earth Defense Force, a unified multinational military, is founded a few years later, in case the aliens prove to be hostile. In each of the games the player assumes the role of an EDF soldier during an alien invasion. ''Earth Defense Force'' is a 1991 horizontal scrolling shooter video game developed and published by Jaleco. Originally an arcade game, the game was later released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as ''Super Earth Defense Force'', dropping the two-player cooperative gaming mode while adding graphics and selectable weapons. The SNES version was released in Japan on October 25, 1991, and in North America in January 1992. The SNES version was eventually released on the Wii Virtual Console in Europe on October 29, 2010, in Japan on January 11, 2011, and in North America on July 14, 2011. It is included in Nintendo Switch SNES Online as of September 5, 2019. Prefectural Earth Defense Force
is a Japanese manga series by Kōichirō Yasunaga which ran in Shōnen Sunday Zōkan beginning in 1983. The manga was written as a parody gag manga inspired by the tokusatsu series '' Ultraseven''. An anime OVA based on the manga was released in 1986. The anime was released on DVD in North America by ADV Films on April 18, 2006. Summary The evil secret society known as the Telephone Pole Gang seeks to take over the world by first taking over a certain prefecture on Kyūshū (they never specify which one). The Mysterians
is a 1957 Japanese tokusatsu science fiction film directed by Ishirō Honda, with special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya. The film begins with a giant fissure destroying an entire village. This leads to an investigation whereby the source is discovered to be Moguera, a giant robot, who is then destroyed by the military. The remains are analyzed and discovered to be of alien origin. Shortly after, an alien race known as the Mysterians arrive, declaring they have taken some Earth women captive and that they demand both land and the right to marry women of Earth. For ''The Mysterians'', producer Tomoyuki Tanaka recruited Jojiro Okami, a science fiction writer, to develop the story.
