The DC Multiverse is a fictional continuity construct used in DC Comics publications. The Multiverse has undergone numerous changes and has included various universes, listed below between the original Multiverse and its successors. The original Multiverse Catalogued Originally, there was no consistency regarding "numbered" Earths—they would be either spelled out as words or use numbers, even within the same story. Harold "Hal" Jordan, one of the characters known as Green Lantern, is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created in 1959 by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane, and first appeared in ''Showcase'' #22 (October 1959). Hal Jordan is a reinvention of the previous Green Lantern who appeared in 1940s comic books as the character Alan Scott. The character was created by editor and co-plotter Julius Schwartz, writer Gardner Fox and penciler Gil Kane.
