An Early Career Award is an award recognizing individuals for notable contributions to their fields, companies, or organizations towards the beginning of an individual's career. Early Career Awards are typically bestowed on recipients early in their careers, as opposed to Distinguished Career Awards, which recognize contributions later in an individual's career. An award, sometimes called a distinction, is something given to a recipient as a token of recognition of excellence in a certain field. When the token is a medal, ribbon or other item designed for wearing, it is known as a decoration. Presidential Early Career Award For Scientists And Engineers
The Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) is the highest honor bestowed by the United States government on outstanding scientists and engineers in the early stages of their independent research careers. The White House, following recommendations from participating agencies, confers the awards annually. To be eligible for a Presidential Award, an individual must be a US citizen, national or permanent resident. Some of the winning scientists and engineers receive up to a five-year research grant.
