E Equational Theorem Prover
E is a high-performance Automated theorem proving, theorem prover for full first-order logic with equality. It is based on the equational superposition calculus and uses a purely equational paradigm. It has been integrated into other theorem provers and it has been among the best-placed systems in several theorem proving competitions. E is developed by Stephan Schulz, originally in the ''Automated Reasoning Group'' at Technical University of Munich, TU Munich, now at Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University Stuttgart. In contrast to most other current provers, the implementation actually uses a purely equational paradigm, and simulates non-equational inferences via appropriate equality inferences. Automated Theorem Proving
Automated theorem proving (also known as ATP or automated deduction) is a subfield of automated reasoning and mathematical logic dealing with proving mathematical theorems by computer programs. Automated reasoning over mathematical proof was a major motivating factor for the development of computer science. Logical foundations While the roots of formalized Logicism, logic go back to Aristotelian logic, Aristotle, the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries saw the development of modern logic and formalized mathematics. Gottlob Frege, Frege's ''Begriffsschrift'' (1879) introduced both a complete propositional logic, propositional calculus and what is essentially modern predicate logic. CADE ATP System Competition
The CADE ATP System Competition (CASC) is an annual competition of fully automated theorem provers for classical logic Competition CASC is associated with the Conference on Automated Deduction and the International Joint Conference on Automated Reasoning organized by the Association for Automated Reasoning. It has inspired similar competition in related fields, in particular the successful SMT-COMP competition for satisfiability modulo theories, the SAT Competition for propositional reasoners, and the modal logic reasoning competition. The first CASC, CASC-13, was held as part of the 13th Conference on Automated Deduction at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, in 1996. Among the systems competing were Otter and SETHEO. Isabelle (theorem Prover)
The Isabelle automated theorem prover is a higher-order logic (HOL) theorem prover, written in Standard ML and Scala. As a Logic for Computable Functions (LCF) style theorem prover, it is based on a small logical core (kernel) to increase the trustworthiness of proofs without requiring, yet supporting, explicit proof objects. Isabelle is available inside a flexible system framework allowing for logically safe extensions, which comprise both theories and implementations for code-generating, documenting, and specific support for a variety of formal methods. It can be seen as an integrated development environment (IDE) for formal methods. Z3 Theorem Prover
Z3, also known as the Z3 Theorem Prover, is a satisfiability modulo theories (SMT) solver developed by Microsoft. Overview Z3 was developed in the ''Research in Software Engineering'' (RiSE) group at Microsoft Research Redmond and is targeted at solving problems that arise in software verification and program analysis. Z3 supports arithmetic, fixed-size bit-vectors, extensional arrays, datatypes, uninterpreted functions, and quantifiers. Its main applications are extended static checking, test case generation, and predicate abstraction. Z3 was open sourced in the beginning of 2015. The source code is licensed under MIT License and hosted on GitHub. The solver can be built using Visual Studio, a makefile or using CMake and runs on Windows, FreeBSD, Linux, and macOS. SPASS
SPASS is an automated theorem prover for first-order logic with equality developed at the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science and using the superposition calculus. The name originally stood for ''Synergetic Prover Augmenting Superposition with Sorts''. The theorem-proving system is released under the FreeBSD license. An extension of SPASS called SPASS-XDB added support for on-the-fly retrieval of positive unit axioms from external sources. SPASS-XDB can thus incorporate facts coming from relational databases, web services, or linked data servers. Conjunctive Normal Form
In Boolean algebra, a formula is in conjunctive normal form (CNF) or clausal normal form if it is a conjunction of one or more clauses, where a clause is a disjunction of literals; otherwise put, it is a product of sums or an AND of ORs. In automated theorem proving, the notion "''clausal normal form''" is often used in a narrower sense, meaning a particular representation of a CNF formula as a set of sets of literals. Definition A logical formula is considered to be in CNF if it is a conjunction of one or more disjunctions of one or more literals. As in disjunctive normal form (DNF), the only propositional operators in CNF are or (\vee), and (\and), and not (\neg). Vampire is an Automated theorem proving, automatic theorem prover for First-order logic, first-order classical logic developed in the Department of Computer Science, University of Manchester, Department of Computer Science at the University of Manchester. Up to Version 3, it was developed by Andrei Voronkov together with Kryštof Hoder and previously with Alexandre Riazanov. First-order Logic
First-order logic, also called predicate logic, predicate calculus, or quantificational logic, is a collection of formal systems used in mathematics, philosophy, linguistics, and computer science. First-order logic uses quantified variables over non-logical objects, and allows the use of sentences that contain variables.
