EP 1 (Zero 7 EP)
''EP 1'', also simply ''EP'', is the first EP released by British downtempo duo Zero 7. The release was limited to 1000 copies. Whilst the A Side tracks are featured on the album '' Simple Things'', the track "Out of Town" differs to the version that appears on the aforementioned album. The track "Lo" has been featured on a mix CD by Layo & Bushwacka!, and is the reason behind the track being referred to as Lo (Layo and Bushwacka! Remix) in many areas. Zero 7
Zero 7 are an English musical duo consisting of Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker. They began as studio engineers and in 1997 formed the group Zero 7. Their debut album, '' Simple Things'', was released in 2001 in which their song "Destiny" stayed in the top 100 of the UK Single Charts. Subsequent albums include ''When It Falls'', '' The Garden'', and ''Yeah Ghost''. After studying sound engineering, Binns and Hardaker began their careers in the music industry in the 1990s at Mickie Most's RAK recording studio in London, engineering music for British groups like Pet Shop Boys, Young Disciples, and Robert Plant. In 1997 they created a remix of the song "Climbing Up the Walls" by Radiohead (which was also the first time the name 'Zero 7' was used) and Binns received a credit for additional sampling on ''Kid A''. ''Simple Things'' is the debut studio album by Zero 7, released on 23 April 2001. It peaked at number 28 on the UK Albums Chart, staying on the chart for 56 weeks. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Critical reception Tim DiGravina of AllMusic gave the album 4 stars out of 5, calling it "an accomplished slice of soulful genius that rewards frequent spins." He said, "the duo of Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker mix a number of musical elements, such as soul-influenced diva vocals, gurgling and ringing keyboards, and classical string arrangements, into a relaxing, potent wave of sounds." Matt Diehl of ''Rolling Stone'' gave the album 3.5 stars out of 5, saying, "More like jazz on acid than acid jazz, ''Simple Things'' can be hallucinatory yet eminently listenable; it's chill-out music with a little something for your mind as well." Layo & Bushwacka!
Layo & Bushwacka! is the pseudonym of British DJ duo Layo Paskin and Matthew Benjamin, who released four tech house albums between 1998 and 2012. Layo Paskin Paskin, from London, began his DJ career at the age of sixteen while working at Camden Market. Not long after, he began DJing at warehouse parties with Mr. C. In the course of his work, Paskin's father discovered the building that would become The End, a 19th-century stable for mail horses. Along with Mr. C, Paskin was the co-owner of The End nightclub in London. Labelled variously as tech house, house or breakbeat, the pair usually record and DJ together. Paskin's father is an architect and designed the club. Paskin, along with his sister Zoë Paskin, is now a restaurateur with several hospitality businesses in central London.
