EMD SD75M
The EMD SD75M and EMD SD75I are a series of similar diesel-electric locomotives produced by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between 1994 and 1996. The series was a response to General Electric's Dash 9-44CW. By increasing the output of the 16-710-G3 engine from , the SD75 was a reality. The "M" in the model designation is the style of the cab, in this case the North American style cab. The "I" model has an "Isolated Cab", or a "WhisperCab" in EMD speak, which reduces noise and vibration in the cab. This type of cab is recognized by a seam separating the nose and cab components. This seam is the rubber that damps vibration and cuts down on noise, because the cab is not attached directly to the frame on the unit. This was the last model that used the "I" designation in the model name; all further units had the isolated cab, but the model designation continued to use the "M". The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway , often referred to as the Santa Fe or AT&SF, was one of the larger railroads in the United States. The Ontario Northland Railway is a Canadian railway operated by the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission, a provincial Crown agency of the government of Ontario. Originally built to develop the Lake Timiskaming and Lake Nipissing areas, the railway soon became a major factor in the economic growth of the province. EMD 710
The EMD 710 is a line of diesel engines built by Electro-Motive Diesel (previously General Motors' Electro-Motive Division). The 710 series replaced the earlier EMD 645 series when the 645F series proved to be unreliable in the early 1980s 50-series locomotives which featured a maximum engine speed of 950 rpm.40-series versions of the 645, save the initial teething problems with the 20-645E, which were eventually resolved, proved to be exceptionally reliable. The EMD 710 is a relatively large medium-speed two-stroke diesel engine that has displacement per cylinder, and a maximum engine speed of 900 rpm.Same parts suitable for 1000 rpm speed, yet rated lower because of earlier problems in EMD 645. GE Dash 9-44CW
The GE C44-9W is a diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems of Erie, Pennsylvania. Keeping in tradition with GE's locomotive series nicknames beginning with the "Dash 7" of the 1970s, the C44-9W was dubbed the Dash 9 upon its debut in 1993. Part of GE's "Dash 9" series of locomotives, the Dash 9-44CW shares its frame, HiAd trucks, 16-cylinder 7FDL engine, and 752AH-31 traction motors with the GE Dash 9-40CW. But while the more common 9-44CW offers 4,400 horsepower (3,300 kW), software in the 9-40CW's engine-governing unit restricts its power output to 4,000 horsepower (3,000 kW).
