EFTA Court
The EFTA Court is a supranational judicial body responsible for the three EFTA members who are also members of the European Economic Area (EEA): Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. As members of the EEA, the three countries participate in the European single market of the European Union. Consequently, they are subject to a number of European laws. Enforcement of these laws would normally be carried out by the European Court of Justice (ECJ); however, there were legal difficulties in giving Union institutions powers over non-members so the EFTA Court was set up to perform this role instead of the ECJ. Since September 1995, the Court has consisted of three judges and six ad hoc judges. They are nominated by the three members and appointed by their governments collectively through common accord. Kirchberg, Luxembourg
Kirchberg ( lb, Kierchbierg, meaning "church hill") is a quarter in north-eastern Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. It consists of a plateau overlooking the north-east of the historical city center, Ville Haute, connected to the rest of the elevated city by the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge, which spans the Pfaffenthal valley. It is often referred to, in reference to the geographical feature it inhabits, as the Kirchberg plateau, or simply Kirchberg by Luxembourgish residents. Kirchberg is the predominant location of the European Union institutions and bodies based within Luxembourg, and is sometimes used as a metonym for the EU's judiciary, which occupies the quarter. Leif Sevón
Leif Jörgen Arvidsson Sevón (born 31 October 1941) is a Finland-Swedish jurist and judge. Biography Sevón holds a Licentiate in Laws degree from the University of Helsinki. His positions include a directorate at the Ministry of Justice, the presidency of the EFTA Court, a seat in the European Court of Justice, and an advisory position at the Ministry of Foreign Affair's Trade Directorate. He left the European Court in 2002 after his appointment as President of the Supreme Court of Finland. In 2005 he retired from the presidency of the Supreme Court. Sven (in Danish and Norwegian, also Svend and also in Norwegian most commonly Svein) is a Scandinavian first name which is also used in the Low Countries and German-speaking countries. Bjørn Haug
Bjørn Haug (16 December 1928 – 8 April 2020) was a Norwegian jurist who held a number of appointed and elected positions. Biography He was born in Oslo. He worked in the Office of the Attorney General of Norway from 1959 to 1962 and in the private company Christiania Spigerverk from 1962 to 1972. He was then the Attorney General of Norway from 1972 to 1993, and also served as the State Conciliator of Norway, from January 1982 to January 1988. He was appointed to the European Free Trade Association Court in 1994, and served as its President from 1995 to 1999. From 1975 to 1981 he chaired the board of directors of the Norwegian National Opera. He has also been the auditor of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. A jurist is a person with expert knowledge of law; someone who analyses and comments on law. General Court (European Union)
The General Court, informally known as the European General Court (EGC), is a constituent court of the Court of Justice of the European Union. It hears actions taken against the institutions of the European Union by individuals and member states, although certain matters are reserved for the European Court of Justice. Decisions of the General Court can be appealed to the Court of Justice, but only on a point of law. Prior to the coming into force of the Lisbon Treaty on 1 December 2009, it was known as the Court of First Instance.
