ECVAA
The European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) is one of 25 Veterinary medicine, veterinary specialist colleges recognized by the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation, comprising more than 35 distinct specialties. History ECVA was inaugurated on 1 January 1995 and was formally registered in the Netherlands on May 22, 1997 as a non-profit organisation. Application for de facto recognition was possible until 31 December 1997. During this period 44 de facto specialists were appointed. The first exam took place in 1997. In 2003 ECVA acquired full recognition-status by the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS) and has continued to grow since then. The name of the College was changed to the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) in 2007. The American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) is one of the veterinary specialist colleges recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association. History The American Society of Veterinary Anesthesiology (ASVA) was founded in 1970 during an AVMA conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The founding officers were Drs. Charles E. Short, William V. Lumb, Donald C. Sawyer, Lawrence R. Soma, and Daniel Roberts, with Dr. Short serving as the first president. The society received approval from the AVMA the following year. In 1971, the ASVA appointed a committee headed by Dr. John Thurman to establish anesthesiology as a formally recognized AVMA specialty. A proposal was prepared and submitted to the AVMA Council on Education in 1973; however, it was initially rejected, with the COE advising that anesthesiologists be incorporated into the existing internal medicine or surgery specialty colleges.
