''Excess Baggage'' was a BBC Radio 4 travel programme that ran for 173 episodes from 2010 to 2012. The programme had a magazine format, featuring travellers' tales, experiences and anecdotes. It was presented by John McCarthy and Sandi Toksvig Sandra Birgitte Toksvig (; ; born 3 May 1958) is a Danish-British writer, comedian and broadcaster on British radio, stage and television. BBC Radio 4 is a British national radio station owned and operated by the BBC that replaced the BBC Home Service in 1967. John McCarthy (journalist)
John Patrick McCarthy (born 27 November 1956) is a British journalist, writer and broadcaster, and one of the hostages in the Lebanon hostage crisis. McCarthy was the United Kingdom's longest-held hostage in Lebanon, where he was a prisoner for more than five years. Career He attended Lochinver House School, then Haileybury and Imperial Service College, Hertfordshire, and read American Studies at the University of Hull. McCarthy was a journalist working for United Press International Television News at the time of his kidnap by Islamic Jihad Organization, Islamic Jihad terrorists in Lebanon. He had only recently arrived in Beirut when on 17 April 1986, two days after United States Airforce, US airstrikes on 1986 United States bombing of Libya, Libya, WTN ordered him to leave. Sandi Toksvig
Sandra Birgitte Toksvig (; ; born 3 May 1958) is a Danish-British writer, comedian and broadcaster on British radio, stage and television. She is also a political activist, having co-founded the Women's Equality Party in 2015. She has written plays, novels and books for children. In 1994, she came out as a lesbian. Toksvig took over from Stephen Fry as host of the BBC television quiz show '' QI'' in 2016 (series 'N'), having been a guest a number of times, and spent ten years hosting ''The News Quiz'' on BBC Radio 4. From 2017 to 2020 she was co-presenter of ''The Great British Bake Off'', alongside comedian Noel Fielding. In 2020, she stepped down and was replaced by Matt Lucas. BBC Sounds is a Closed platform, walled garden streaming media and audio download service from the BBC that includes live radio broadcasts, audio on demand, and podcasts. The service is available on a wide range of devices, including mobile phones and tablets, personal computers, cars, and smart televisions.
