European Route E14
European route E14 is a part of the International E-road network. It begins in Trondheim, Norway, and ends in Sundsvall, Sweden. The road is long. The road follows the route Trondheim - Storlien – Östersund – Sundsvall. Just east of Trondheim, the road goes through the long Hell Tunnel. International E-road Network
The international E-road network is a numbering system for roads in Europe developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The network is numbered from E1 up and its roads cross national borders. It also reaches Central Asian countries like Kyrgyzstan, since they are members of the UNECE. Main international traffic arteries in Europe are defined by ECE/TRANS/SC.1/2016/3/Rev.1 which consider three types of roads: motorways, limited access roads, and ordinary roads. In most countries, the roads carry the European route designation alongside national designations. Belgium, Norway and Sweden have roads which only have the European route designations (examples: E18 and E6). The United Kingdom, Iceland and Albania only use national road designations and do not show the European designations at all. Storlien
Storlien is a village and ski resort located in Åre municipality in Jämtland, Sweden, two kilometres from the Swedish-Norwegian border. The primary bases of the settlement are tourism and outdoor life – alpine skiing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, hunting, fishing and hiking. During the 2000s, retail sales to customers from Norway become important, and most of the tourists in Storlien are Norwegians. The Swedish royal family has a house in Storlien, where they usually celebrate Easter and the New Year. There was also previously a sanitarium. Östersund (; sma, Staare) is an urban area (city) in Jämtland in the middle of Sweden. It is the seat of Östersund Municipality and the capital of Jämtland County. Östersund is located at the shores of Sweden's fifth-largest lake, Storsjön, opposite the island Frösön. It is the only city in Jämtland. Hell Tunnel
The Hell Tunnel ( no, Helltunnelen) is a long road tunnel in Trøndelag county, Norway. The tunnel is located along the shared section of the European route E6 and European route E14 motorways that runs through the mountain Gjevingåsen between the villages of Hommelvik in Malvik municipality and Hell in Stjørdal municipality. The tunnel was opened on 18 October 1995 and is the longest of the four tunnels between Trondheim and Stjørdal. It used to have a toll plaza on the southeast side of the tunnel, but now it is all automated, just as with several other tunnels in Norway. The tunnel was built as part of the Trondheim Toll Scheme. Ånnsjön
Ånnsjön is a lake in Åre Municipality in Jämtland County, Sweden. By road it is located northwest of Östersund. The lake and surrounding wetlands are rich in fish, water birds and other wildlife. There are remains of human habitation in the region since the Stone Age, including petroglyphs that are among the oldest in Sweden. In the late 19th century there were attempts to drain the wetlands for use in agriculture and forestry, but this is now being reversed. The lake and surroundings is a protected Natura 2000 area, and attracts many birdwatchers.
