European Women In Mathematics
European Women in Mathematics (EWM) is an international association of women working in the field of mathematics in Europe. The association participates in political and strategic work to promote the role of women in mathematics and offers its members direct support. Its goals include encouraging women to study mathematics and providing visibility to women mathematicians. It is the "first and best known" of several organizations devoted to women in mathematics in Europe. Mission European Women in Mathematics aims to encourage women to study mathematics, support women in their careers, provide a meeting place for like-minded people and highlight and make women mathematicians visible. In this way, and by promoting scientific communication and working with groups and organisations with similar goals, they spread their vision of mathematics and science. Anna B. Romanowska is a Polish mathematician specializing in abstract algebra. Mathematics is an area of knowledge that includes the topics of numbers, formulas and related structures, shapes and the spaces in which they are contained, and quantities and their changes. Carola-Bibiane Schönlieb
Carola-Bibiane Schönlieb (born 1979) is an Austrian mathematician who works in image processing and partial differential equations. She is a Fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge and Professor of Applied Mathematics in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge. She is the author of the book ''Partial Differential Equation Methods for Image Inpainting'' (Cambridge University Press, 2015), on methods for using the solutions to partial differential equations to fill in gaps in digital images. Schönlieb earned a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Salzburg in 2004. She completed her Ph.D. at Cambridge in 2009. Susanna Terracini
Susanna Terracini (born April 29, 1963) is an Italian mathematician known for her research on chaos in Hamiltonian dynamical systems, including the ''n''-body problem, reaction–diffusion systems, and the Schrödinger equation. Terracini was born in South London. She earned a laurea in 1986 in mathematics at the University of Turin, supervised by Fulvia Skof. She completed her Ph.D. at the International School for Advanced Studies in 1990. Her dissertation, ''Periodic Solutions to Singular Newtonian Systems'', was supervised by Ivar Ekeland and Sergio Solimini. Frances Kirwan
Dame Frances Clare Kirwan, (born 21 August 1959) is a British mathematician, currently Savilian Professor of Geometry at the University of Oxford. Her fields of specialisation are algebraic and symplectic geometry. Education Kirwan was educated at Oxford High School, and studied maths as an undergraduate at Clare College in the University of Cambridge. She took a D.Phil at Oxford in 1984, with the dissertation title ''The Cohomology of Quotients in Symplectic and Algebraic Geometry'', which was supervised by Michael Atiyah. Karma Dajani
Karma Dajani is a Lebanese-Dutch mathematician whose research interests include ergodic theory, probability theory, and their applications in number theory. She is an associate professor of mathematics at Utrecht University. Education and career Dajani was born in Lebanon, and did her undergraduate studies at the American University of Beirut, initially in medicine but switching after a year to mathematics. Because of the Lebanese Civil War, she and her family moved to the US, where she earned her Ph.D. in 1989 from George Washington University. Irene Sciriha Aquilina is a Maltese mathematician specializing in spectral graph theory and chemical graph theory. A particular topic of her research has been the singular graphs, graphs whose adjacency matrix is a singular matrix, and the nut graphs, singular graphs all of whose nontrivial induced subgraphs are non-singular. She is a professor of mathematics at the University of Malta. MacTutor History Of Mathematics Archive
The MacTutor History of Mathematics archive is a website maintained by John J. O'Connor and Edmund F. Robertson and hosted by the University of St Andrews in Scotland. It contains detailed biographies on many historical and contemporary mathematicians, as well as information on famous curves and various topics in the history of mathematics. The History of Mathematics archive was an outgrowth of Mathematical MacTutor system, a HyperCard database by the same authors, which won them the European Academic Software award in 1994.
