European Heavyweight Championship
The European Heavyweight Championship is a name used for various top titles competed for throughout the European professional wrestling circuit. The title was recognised as official by UK national TV network ITV for the purposes of their coverage of the UK wrestling scene and by its listings magazine TVTimes in accompanying magazine feature coverage. The title was defended in many promotions in Europe, and other versions of this one title also appeared in certain promotions. On August 25, 2001 the European Wrestling Union produced a European Heavyweight Championship tournament in Bochum, Germany, bringing in wrestlers some of whom claimed to already be the champion. This tournament saw these titles merge into one with Britain's Robbie Brookside confirming his claim as champion by defeating American "Five Star" Cory K in a championship decider. In professional wrestling, a championship or title is a recognition promoted by professional wrestling organizations. Championship reigns are determined by professional wrestling matches, in which competitors are involved in predetermined rivalries; these narratives create feuds between the various competitors, which usually cast them as either faces (heroes), heels (villains), or more rarely tweeners (morally ambiguous). The bookers in a company, who decide the winners and where the storyline goes, will place the title on the most accomplished performer or the one they believe will generate fan interest in terms of event attendance and television viewership. Al Pereira
Alfred Pereira (August 8, 1906 to January 15, 1990) was an American professional wrestler, known as Al "Power House" Pereira. He held the European Heavyweight Championship twice. Early life Pereira was born in Half Moon Bay, California, the son of Portuguese immigrants. Professional wrestling career Pereira won the European Heavyweight Championship in July 1937 in Paris, France, defeating Henri Deglane. He later lost the title to Dan Koloff, later reclaimed it and then lost it again to Koloff. Personal life and death Pereira later opened "Al Pereira's Inn" in Honolulu, Hawaii. Billy Joyce
William Joyce (1949 – 12 March 2025) was an Irish Gaelic football player and manager. At club level, he played with Killererin and at inter-county level with the Galway senior football team. Joyce later served as manager at club and county levels. Playing career At club level, Joyce played with Killererin. After playing very little Gaelic football at juvenile and underage levels, he progressed to the club's adult team and won a Galway JFC title in 1968. Joyce later claimed Galway SFC medals in 1976 and 1978, with both of those victories being converted into Connacht Club SFC title. At inter-county level, Joyce was overlooked for Galway's minor team. He won a Connacht JFC medal in 1969, before later lining out with the under-21 team. Joyce made his senior team debut in a Gael Linn tournament match in 1969. Joe Robinson (actor)
Joseph William Robinson Harle (31 May 1927 – 3 July 2017) was an English actor, martial artist, and professional wrestler. He was known during his wrestling career by the ring name "Tiger" Joe Robinson. Early life Robinson was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1927. He was the son of Joseph Spedding Robinson, sometimes called Jack Robinson, a Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling champion-turned-professional wrestler. His grandfather John was also a wrestler. In 1931, Robinson and his family moved to South Africa, where his father ran a gym. Robinson worked in his father's gym, and trained in catch wrestling and bodybuilding from a young age. Shirley Crabtree Jr. (14 November 1930 – 2 December 1997), better known as Big Daddy, was an English professional wrestler. He worked for Joint Promotions and the original British Wrestling Federation. Initially appearing on television as a heel, he teamed with Giant Haystacks. Bartolomeo "Bert" Assirati (9 July 1908 – 31 August 1990), was an English professional wrestler who became a multiple-time British Heavyweight Champion, and, posthumously, a charter member of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame. He was known for displaying various feats of strength, including setting a British record in 1938 by lying on his back, and pulling over at arm's length a 200-pound barbell.
