Ethnic Violence Against Amaro Koore
This is part of the series of violence between minorities in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) and West Guji Zone of the Oromia regions, causing frequent attacks against ethnic Koore and other minorities in the Amaro special woreda and surroundings. Amaro Special Woreda
Amaro Zone (Kore) is a zone in the south-west Ethiopian Regional State of Ethiopia, and the people are called Kore, and their language is Korigna. The Amaro Kore people are the descendants of the Christian missioners of the north Ethiopian sematic peoples of Gonder, who were moved gradually through the northern shewa (menze) to the central and south-western Ethiopian lands of Damot (wolayta), Dawuro, Gamo Gofa, and surrounding areas of the region with their Christian traditions and heritages around the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth centuries. Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front
The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF; am, የኢትዮጵያ ሕዝቦች አብዮታዊ ዲሞክራሲያዊ ግንባር, translit=Ye’Ītiyop’iya Ḥizibochi Ābiyotawī Dīmokirasīyawī Ginibari) was an ethnic federalist political coalition in Ethiopia that existed from 1988 to 2019. Ethiopian Civil Conflict (2018–present)
Many of the roots of the ongoing civil conflict within Ethiopia date back to the mid-twentieth century and earlier. Following the 2018 dissolution of the ethnic federalist, dominant party political coalition, the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front, there was an increase in tensions within the country, with newly resurgent regional and ethnically based factions carrying out armed attacks on military and civilians in multiple conflicts throughout Ethiopia. This tension further escalated when war broke out in the Tigray region between the federal government and the regional government in November 2020. The ENDF and Eritrean Defence Forces (EDF) entered Tigray and took the capital of Mekelle. The Gambela Massacre was a three-day-long massacre in the city of Gambela (city), Gambela targeting Anuak people in December of 2003. The massacre perpetrated by the Ethiopian National Defense Force, ENDF and "highlander" militias after an ambush of ARRA employees. Democratic backsliding in Ethiopia is ongoing, most notably under the administration of Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Since assumption of power in April 2018, Ahmed has played crucial role of reforms in the Politics of Ethiopia, Ethiopian politics and reversal of policies implemented by the former ruling party, the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF). Ethnic Violence In Konso
The conflict in Konso is part of a series of ethnic-based violence in Ethiopia. UN OCHA reported that its Early warning department of SNNPR categorized Konso as a priority hot spot area. Repeated conflict and the issue of adverse weather exacerbated the existing humanitarian crisis in the Zone. Interpersonal ethnic violence are deepening into serious human rights violations and suffering, with the ethnic federalism system that drew formal administrative divisions with regional boundaries falling along ethnic lines. Gelana is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It was part of former Gelana Abaya woreda. It is part of the Borena Zone. The administrative center of Gelana is Tore. Demographics The 2007 national census reported a total population for this woreda of 71,369, of whom 36,032 were men and 35,337 were women; 3,502 or 4.91% of its population were urban dwellers. Gedeo–Guji Clashes
The Gedeo–Guji clashes were a territorial conflict between the Guji Oromo and the Gedeo people, that began in 1995. The clashes led to about 800,000 mostly ethnic Gedeos fleeing their homes, a higher number and over a shorter period of time, than occurred at the height of the more publicized Rohingya crisis in Myanmar the year before. Prosperity Party
The Prosperity Party ( am, ብልጽግና ፓርቲ, Bilits’igina Paritī; om, Paartii Badhaadhiinaa) is a political party in Ethiopia that was established on 1 December 2019 as a successor to the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) by incumbent Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
