Ethelmary Oakland (30 July 1909 – 2 December 1999) was an American actress as a silent film child star. She was born in Indiana and started her film career at four years old. She also trained in dance with Anna Pavlova. In 1915, the ''Buffalo Times'' noted her "portrayer of child screen roles is unrivaled". Her salary in 1915 ranged from $100 to $400 per week (equivalent to $ to $ per week in ). Oakland posed for a portrait by Emil Fuchs that was displayed in public exhibits and a gallery in 1916. She was featured in such Thanhouser Film Corporation's films as ''The World and the Woman'' (1916) with Jeanne Eagels; and ''Always in the Way'' (1915) with Mary Miles Minter and Charlotte Shelby. ''Always in the Way'' is a 1915 American silent drama film directed by J. Searle Dawley and starring Mary Miles Minter. The film, which was inspired by the song of the same name by Charles K. Harris, was partially filmed in the Bahamas. As with many of Minter's features, the film is thought to be a lost film. Plot As described in film magazines, Winfred North, a widower, marries a widow with two children, believing this will be best for his five-year-old daughter, Dorothy. When her step-mother discovers that Dorothy is to inherit the entirety of her father's fortune, she passes her off as an orphan, and has her adopted by a missionary couple who take the little girl to Africa. Now aged fifteen, Dorothy is aiding her adoptive father Revered Goodwin in his missionary work, when she meets Robert Armstrong, a prospector, and they become sweethearts. ''Divorce and the Daughter'' is a 1916 American silent drama film directed by Frederic Richard Sullivan. The film stars Florence La Badie, Edwin Stanley, Ethelmary Oakland and Kathryn Adams. Plot Alicia is a poor girl living in the city with her family. When her father receives an inheritance, he is able to follow his dream of becoming an artist and moves his family near an artist's colony in the country. There he falls prey to a scheming widow, and he and his wife separate. Alicia, meanwhile, has become involved with a young man who is the widow's accomplice, and she throws over her former suitor, Dr. John Osborne. The young man is a proponent of free love, but he gets a little too free with Alicia and she beans him with a small statuette.
