Estádio Da Calheta
Estádio da Calheta is a multi-purpose stadium in the village of Veneza (not far from the center) northwest of the town limits of Calheta de São Miguel in São Miguel, Cape Verde, just off the Praia-Pedra Badejo-Tarrafal Road (EN1-ST02). It is one of four that are operated by the Santiago North Regional Football Association (ARFSN). The stadium is home to Calheta's best clubs including AJAC da Calheta, AJAC, Desportivo da Calheta and CD Flor Jovem da Calheta, Flor Jovem, recently it is the home field of ADEC. All clubs participate in the Santiago Island League (North), Santiago Island League North Zone, two in the Premier Division and ADEC in the Second Division. The stadium is also used as a training ground before its matches. History The football (soccer) field was created in around the late 20th century. Estádio de Cumbém, also as Estádio Municipal de Cumbém is a multi-purpose stadium in the city of Assomada, seat of the municipality of Santa Catarina in the Santiago, Cape Verde and is located in the suburb of Cumbém located south of the centre, accessed with Avenida 15 de Dezembro. The island of Santiago in Cape Verde in the middle of the Sotavento Islands is home to several teams and clubs. The major professional clubs are Sporting Praia, Boavista Praia and CD Travadores, semi-pro teams includes Académica da Praia and Desportivo da Praia. Maio is the easternmost of the Sotavento islands of Cape Verde. Maio is located south of the island of Boa Vista and east of Santiago. Administratively, the island forms one ''concelho'' (municipality): Maio. History The island was discovered in 1460. It was first settled at the end of the 16th century, when the land was used to raise livestock, especially goats. Salt was first exploited in the 17th century which caused the population to grow.
