Cuíto
Cuíto, formerly known as Silva Porto, is a city and municipality in central Angola, capital of Bié Province. The municipality had a population of 450,881 in 2014. Projected to be the tenth fastest growing city on the African continent between 2020 and 2025, with a 5.56% growth. History The city of Cuíto is built in the historical heart of the Ovimbundu kingdom. The ruler of the Ovimbundu was named Viye and he married a Songo woman named Cahanda. Together they built the city and later the Portuguese would name the Bié Province after the ruler. The Ovimbundu were known for selling captives from neighbouring tribes to the European slave traders which made the area an ideal location for the slave business and brought colonists to the area. The Portuguese "founded" the city in 1750. They later called it Silva Porto after António da Silva Porto who built his home ''embala Belmonte'' in the area. Sporting Clube Petróleos do Bié best known as Sporting do Bié is a multisports club from Kuito, Angola. The club's football team contests at the Angolan Gira Angola and Girabola competitions. Following Angola's independence in 1975, the club went out of business and was later revamped by merging with Desportivo Sonangol and later on with Kuito's Direcção Provincial da Justiça soccer team and was renamed União Sport do Bié. Later on, it was again renamed as União Petro do Bié. Cuando Cubango FC
Cuando Cubango Futebol Clube or simply Cuando Cubango FC is an Angolan sports club from the city of Menongue, in the Angolan southern province of Cuando Cubango. The club was founded as Futebol Clube da Casa Militar. In 2016, the team secured a place in the Gira Angola (Angola's second division championship) in 2016 after winning the Cuando Cubango province football championship. In 2017, the club qualified for the Angolan top division, the Girabola. In 2018, the club decided to change the name to Cuando Cubango Futebol Clube. Financial difficulties On January 22, 2022, during the 2021-22 Girabola season, the club's management threatened to drop out of the competition, citing financial difficulties related to an expense of 300 million kwanzas, but revealing the club was working together with the government of the Cuando Cubango province to find a solution.
