Estonia In The Eurovision Song Contest 2008
Estonia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Leto svet" written by Priit Pajusaar, Tarmo Leinatamm, Hannes Võrno, Peeter Oja and Glen Pilvre. The song was performed by the group Kreisiraadio. The Estonian broadcaster Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR) organised the national final ''Eurolaul 2008'' in order to select the Estonian entry for the 2008 contest in Belgrade, Serbia. Ten songs competed in the national final and the winner was selected over two rounds of public voting. In the first round, the top three were selected to qualify to the superfinal. In the superfinal, "Leto svet" performed by Kreisiraadio was selected as the winner. Estonia was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 20 May 2008. Performing during the show in position 3, "Leto svet" was not announced among the 10 qualifying entries of the first semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final. Kreisiraadio
was an Estonian comedy act, made up of Hannes Võrno, Peeter Oja and Tarmo Leinatamm. They have been around since 1993 with radio and TV sketch shows. Their sketches have introduced the hazardous sport of stoneball, the character of the arrogant man with a flat hat and that of Alev Ström, the Estonian immigrant in Sweden talking nonsense Swedish much in the same way that their Eurovision Song Contest 2008 submission "Leto svet" (''Summer Light'') uses nonsense Serbian language, Serbian (along with Finnish language, Finnish and German language, German). Marko Reikop
Marko Reikop (born 19 June 1969 in Tallinn) is an Estonian TV host. He graduated from the Tallinn University on bibliography and is employed by radio and TV channels of the Estonian Public Broadcasting since 1991. He has presented the Estonian national finals for Eurovision Song Contest and made a live commentary for the event. From 2009 and on he presents the daily talk show '' Ringvaade'' together with Anu Välba (along with Grete Lõbu since autumn of 2013). Anna Cecilia Sahlin (born 11 May 1976), known professionally as Anna Sahlene and formerly by the one-word stage name Sahlene, is a Swedish performer best known as a singer: she placed third at the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 with " Runaway" the Estonian Eurovision entrant for 2002. Sven Lõhmus (born 13 July 1972) is an Estonian pop-composer and lyricist. He is a producer at Moonwalk Studios, a music company featuring Estonian artists. He has worked with leading artists of Estonia, including Vanilla Ninja (of which he was also manager), Suntribe, Urban Symphony, Grete Paia, Laura Põldvere, and Getter Jaani. Smilers is an Estonian Rock music, rock band formed in 1991 by Hendrik Sal-Saller. The name reportedly originated from a Rod Stewart album, ''Smiler (album), Smiler''. The band was first named Lezer Brozers. In the early years Smilers produced two albums in Finland, but as these were not successful, they returned to Estonia and gained fame soon after. Rein Rannap (born 6 October 1953 in Tallinn) is an Estonian composer and pianist. Since 1968, Rannap has given numerous public piano performances. Rannap has been active in management and composition for Ruja, Noor-Eesti and Hõim. Pianist career Rannap gave his first solo concert in 1968.
