Estonia have competed at the Paralympic Games since the 1992 Summer events. Estonian Paralympic Committee was founded on April, 1991. Best athlete Marge Kõrkjas has performed in four Paralympics and won always at least one medal, total of 7 (2 Gold, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze). The two other gold medalists are Annely Ojastu Annely Ojastu (born 10 August 1960 in Tartu) is an Estonian Paralympic athlete. Athletics At The 2000 Summer Paralympics
Athletics at the 2000 Summer Paralympics comprised a total of 234 events, 165 for men and 69 for women. Athletes were classified according to the extent and type of their disability. * Classes 11-13: visually impaired athletes * Class 20: intellectually disabled athletes * Classes 32-38: athletes with cerebral palsy; classes 32 to 34 competed while in wheelchairs * Classes 42-46: amputees and those with other disabilities (''les autres'') * Classes 51-58: athletes with spinal cord disabilities; these classes competed while in wheelchairs Class numbers were preceded by a "T" for track events, an "F" for field events, and a "P" for the pentathlon. Lower class numbers corresponded to more severe disability. An exception to this classification scheme arose for athletes with severe cerebral palsy competing in field events; there were no F32 events, so athletes from this category instead competed in class F51 against athletes with spinal cord disabilities. The 2000 Summer Paralympic Games or the XI Summer Paralympics were held in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, between 18 and 29 October. The Sydney Paralympics was last time that the Summer Paralympics which were organized by two different Organizing Committees. Swimming at the 1996 Summer Paralympics consisted of 168 events, 87 for men and 81 for women. Because of a tie in the men's 100 m freestyle S4 event, a total of 169 bronze medals were awarded. The 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta were the first ones where swimming was fully integrated based on functional disability, with classification no longer separated into classes based on the four disability types of vision impaired, cerebral palsy, amputee, and wheelchair sport. Swimming At The 1992 Summer Paralympics
Swimming at the 1992 Summer Paralympics consisted of 163 events, 88 for men and 75 for women. Because of ties for third place in the women's 50 metre freestyle B3 and men's 50 metre freestyle B2 events, a total of 165 bronze medals were awarded. Starting in 1992, there was a move away from Les Autres specific classifications to functional based classification systems at the Paralympic Games. This was realized in swimming, where Les Autres sportspeople competed directly against people with other disabilities including cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries and amputations. As a result, the 1992 Games saw the total number of classes for people with physical disabilities drop from 31 to 10. Still, swimming, athletics and table tennis used a classification system for the Barcelona Games that was still mostly medical based.
