Erik Westzynthius The Elder
Erik Westzynthius the Elder (1711 – 1757, in Dublin) was a Finnish painter. Westzynthius was a religious-themed painter for church commissions, primarily active between 1730 and 1749. He painted some works for the Raahe church in 1746, the Alavieska church, and altarpieces for churches in Paavola Paavola is a former municipality of Finland, now a village in the municipality of Siikajoki. The village is located beside the Siikajoki river. Though lacking rail transport connections, the settlement does lie beside the crossroads of routes 86 ..., Paltamo, and Pielavesi, which are now in the National Museum of Finland. His son Erik Westzynthius the Younger also became a painter. Raahe
Raahe (; sv, Brahestad; ) is a town and municipality of Finland. Founded by Swedish statesman and Governor General of Finland Count Per Brahe the Younger in 1649, it is one of 10 historic wooden towns (or town centers) remaining in Finland. Examples of other Finnish historic wooden towns are Kaskinen (Kaskö), Old Rauma, Porvoo (Borgå), Jakobstad (Pietarsaari), and Vaasa (Vasa). The word ''Ala'' means "lower", while the word ''Vieska'' is supposed to mean a "shallow ford". The scythe theme of Alavieska's coat of arms refers to the extensive meadows in the municipality's territory. Paltamo ( sv, Paltamo, also ) is a municipality of Finland. It is part of the Kainuu region. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . There are two built-up areas in the municipality: Kontiomäki and Paltamo. Kontiomäki has about 600 inhabitants. It is from Paltamo to Kajaani and to Oulu. Erik Westzynthius the Younger (1743–1787) was a Finnish church painter. Westzynthius was born in Oulu. His father Erik Westzynthius the Elder was also a painter.
