Eric Reed (musician)
Eric Scott Reed (born June 21, 1970) is an American jazz pianist and composer. His group Black Note released several albums in the 1990s. Biography Reed was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He began playing piano at age two, was playing piano in his minister father's church by age five, and at age seven began formal study at Philadelphia's Settlement Music School. At age 11 his family moved to Los Angeles, and he studied at the R. D. Colburn School of Arts. In May 1986, at Colburn School, Reed met Wynton Marsalis, an encounter that would greatly aid his career. At age 18, during a year of college at California State University, Northridge, Reed briefly toured with Marsalis. He joined Marsalis's septet a year later, and worked with him from 1990 to 1991 (in 1991–1992 he worked with Joe Henderson and Freddie Hubbard), and again from 1992 to 1995. Eric Shane Reed (born December 2, 1980) is a former Major League Baseball outfielder who played for the Florida Marlins in 2006 and 2007. Amateur career A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Reed attended Monticello High School in Monticello, Arkansas where he was a letterman in football, baseball, and powerlifting, and garnered all-state honors in both football and baseball. He attended Texas A&M University, and in 2001 he played collegiate summer baseball with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he was named a league all-star and won the league's Thurman Munson Award for leading all hitters with a .365 batting average. Eric David Reed (born December 7, 1983) is an American soccer player. Career College and Amateur Reed grew up in Laguna Hills, California, and attended Laguna Hills High School, where he was a four-year starter. During this time, he received a handful of United States U-18 caps. After high school, he attended UCLA where he redshirted his freshman year. The following year he appeared in four games and continued his good form earning an additional 16 games in his second year. He was a consistent first team starter over the next two years. While attending college, he competed in the USL Premier Development League with the Southern California Seahorses. Eric Reed (born ) is an American horse trainer. He is best known as the former trainer of Rich Strike, the winner of the 2022 Kentucky Derby. Early life Reed's father, trainer Herbert Reed, was 16 years old when Eric was born. His father Herbert trained for over 40 years apprenticing under the guidance of Mack Miller. Eric has trained since 1983. Career In 1986, Native Drummer provided Reed his first stakes win in the Forego Stakes at Latonia. Reed is the owner of the Mercury Equine Center, a 60-acre thoroughbred training facility in Lexington, Kentucky. In 2016, a fire ravaged the center, killing dozens of horses. Reed believed that a lightning strike was the cause. Rich Strike closed at 80-1 odds before the start of the 2022 Derby, the longest odds among all 20 horses. Erik Read (born May 31, 1991) is a Canadian World Cup alpine ski racer specializing the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, he represented Canada at two Winter Olympics and five World Championships. Career At his first World Championships in 2015 at Beaver Creek, USA, Read finished in the top thirty in giant slalom and slalom. He was also in the Nations Team Event (NTE), in which Canada won the silver medal. He competed in slalom and giant slalom at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Read is a two-time Canadian champion in slalom (2013 and 2014) and won the overall title in the North American Cup (Nor-Am Cup) in 2012. Eric Todd Reid Jr. (born December 10, 1991) is a former American football safety. He played college football for Louisiana State University (LSU), and received consensus All-American recognition. He was selected in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, with whom he made the 2014 Pro Bowl. Early life Reid was born to Eric Reid Sr. and Sharon Reid in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He attended Dutchtown High School in Geismar, Louisiana, where he played football, basketball, and ran track. In football, he recorded 78 tackles, nine sacks, four interceptions, and three fumble recoveries as a junior.
