Eric Davis (footballer, Born 1932)
Eric William Charles Davis (26 February 1932 – 24 July 2007) was an English footballer who played as a centre forward. He made 136 appearances in the Football League for Plymouth Argyle, Scunthorpe United, Chester and Oldham Athletic, scoring 61 goals. Career Born in Stonehouse, Plymouth, he began his career playing Rhyl while on national service. During this time he also had a trial at Chester, who he would join later in his career. Davis played for Tavistock Town when he returned to Devon and joined Plymouth Argyle in 1952. Having scored on his debut in March 1953, he was a back-up player to Maurice Tadman for two seasons and then played more regularly over the next three. When the club signed Wilf Carter in 1957, Davis was transferred to Scunthorpe United, having scored 29 goals in 63 league games. Stonehouse, Plymouth
East Stonehouse was one of three towns that were amalgamated into modern-day Plymouth. West Stonehouse was a village that is within the current Mount Edgcumbe Country Park in Cornwall. It was destroyed by the French in 1350. The terminology used in this article refers to the settlement of East Stonehouse which is on the Devon side of the mouth of the Tamar estuary, and will be referred to as Stonehouse. History Settlement in the area goes back to Roman times and a house made of stone was believed to have stood near to Stonehouse Creek. However other stories relate to land owned in the 13th century by Robert the Bastard. This land subsequently passed from the Durnford family, through marriage, to the Edgecombe family in the 14th and 15th centuries. Maurice Tadman
Maurice Roy Tadman (28 June 1921 – 26 November 1994) was an English footballer who played as a centre forward. He began his career in non-league football with Bexleyheath & Welling before playing alongside his older brother George at Charlton Athletic. His progress was halted by the Second World War, but he returned to the club when hostilities had ceased. Despite being a prolific goalscorer for the club's reserve team, he was unable to force his way into the first team and was transferred to Plymouth Argyle for £4,000 in August 1947. He soon established himself as the club's first choice striker and finished as top goalscorer in five of his first seven seasons at Home Park. He left the club in 1955, having joined an elite group of players to have scored more than 100 goals, to finish his career in Northern Ireland as player-manager of Belfast Distillery. 1962–63 FA Cup
The 1962–63 FA Cup was the 82nd staging of the world's oldest football cup competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup, commonly known as the FA Cup. Manchester United won the competition for only the third time, beating Leicester City 3–1 in the final at Wembley. Matches were scheduled to be played at the stadium of the team named first on the date specified for each round, which was always a Saturday. Some matches, however, might be rescheduled for other days if there were clashes with games for other competitions or the weather was inclement. If scores were level after 90 minutes had been played, a replay would take place at the stadium of the second-named team later the same week. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Wilfred Carter (4 October 1933 – 4 August 2013) was an English footballer who played as a forward. He played in the Football League for West Bromwich Albion, Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City.
