Equestrian At The 2003 Pan American Games
Equestrian competitions at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, were held in 2003 at the Palmarejo Equestrian Center (dressage and jumping). The venue seated 600 people and was 65 km from the athlete's village. Eventing competition were held separately as a Pan American Eventing Championship in Fair Hill, United States and were officially not included in the results. Mark Watring
Mark Watring (born May 2, 1963), is a Puerto Rican equestrian who in 2003, won a gold medal in the Pan American Games. Early years Watring was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, where he was raised. Watring's father was a soldier stationed at Ramey Air Force Base in Aguadilla. It was there that his father and mother met and were later married. He learned at a young age how to ride horses and did not know that someday he would represent Puerto Rico in the Olympics. Equestrian competitions In 1984, Watring qualified and participated at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California in eventing. In 2001, Watring was named the American Grand Prix Association's (AGA) "Rookie of the Year". On May 27, 2002 Watring won the $35,000 Lexus of Glendale Memorial Grand Prix prize money, at the Memorial Day Classic Horse Show aboard his horse "Sapphire". Equestrian At The Pan American Games
Equestrianism made its Pan American Games debut at the first Pan American Games in 1951 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It has appeared at every Pan American Games since. The current Pan American Games equestrian disciplines are Dressage, Eventing, and Jumping. In each discipline, both individual and team medals are awarded. Women and men compete together on equal terms. Equestrian disciplines and the equestrian component of Modern Pentathlon are also the only Pan American Games events that involve animals. The horse is considered as much an athlete as the rider. The International Governing Body for equestrian sports is the Fédération Équestre Internationale ( FEI). Equestrian At The 2004 Summer Olympics
The events of the equestrian at the 2004 Summer Olympics featured three equestrian disciplines: dressage, eventing and jumping. All three disciplines are further divided into individual and team contests for a total of six events. Karen Lende O'Connor (born February 17, 1958) is an American equestrian who competes in three-day eventing. Although she did not come from a family of equestrians, her interest in horses started at an early age, and she received her first horse for her 11th birthday. O'Connor began competing internationally in the late 1970s, and in 1986 began riding for the US national eventing team. Since then, she had ridden in five Olympic Games, three World Equestrian Games and two Pan-American Games, winning multiple medals, including a team silver at the 1996 Olympic Games and a team bronze at the 2000 Olympic Games. She has also posted numerous wins and top-10 finishes at other international events. Chris Kappler (born February 9, 1967) is an American show jumper and horse trainer. He is an Olympic gold and silver medalist, and the winner of over 100 Grand Prixs. He is a founder of the North American Riders Group. Early life Kappler grew up in Barrington, Illinois. He started riding at age nine, and began his show career training with Alex Jayne. He was discovered by George Morris and trained at Morris' stable, Hunterdon. He placed second in the USEF Medal Finals, third in the ASPCA Maclay Finals, and second in the USET Talent Search Finals. Yvonne Losos de Muñiz (born 8 September 1967 in Ibadan, Nigeria) is a Nigeria-born Dominican Republic Olympic athlete and international Grand Prix dressage rider that represents the Dominican Republic. Equestrian At The 2007 Pan American Games
The Equestrian events included three disciplines: dressage, eventing, and show jumping, and were held at the Deodoro Military Club. The competition is broken down into an individual and team competition for each discipline, for a total of 42 medals awarded. There are three members per team and one reserve rider in the dressage, and up to 4 team members in the eventing competition with only the top 3 member's scores taken for the final results. Dressage results The dressage team riders complete a test at Prix St. George level, and the individual riders complete a PSG and Intermediate I level test, with the top 15 competitors moving on to ride for medals in an Intermediate I Freestyle test.
