The Belgian Bishops' Conference or the Episcopal Conference of Belgium ( nl, Belgische Bisschoppenconferentie; french: Conférence épiscopale de Belgique; german: Belgische Bischofskonferenz) is the permanent organ of the Roman Catholic bishops in Belgium. It is a member of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences. It includes the bishops, auxiliary bishops and retired bishops of the ecclesiastical province of Belgium. Roman Catholic Diocese Of Namur
The Diocese of Namur is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in Belgium. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels. The diocese is a suffragan in the ecclesiastical province in the metropolitan Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels. Its cathedra is found within St Aubin's Cathedral in the episcopal see of Namur. History The diocese was constituted as a suffragan see of the new metropolitan see of Cambrai by the papal bull of 12 May 1559 establishing the new bishoprics in the Low Countries. Its territory had previously belonged to the Diocese of Liège. After suppression in the French period the diocese was re-established by the Concordat of 1801, its extent matching that of the Department of Sambre-et-Meuse, and as suffragan of the Archdiocese of Mechelen. Paul Van Den Berghe
Paul Van den Berghe (born 7 January 1933 in Geraardsbergen, Belgium) is a Belgium Bishop in the Roman Catholic Church. Biography Van den Berghe obtained a degree in Thomist philosophy and was ordained a priest on 15 June 1957. He then earned a doctorate in theology in 1961 and became professor of exegesis at a seminary in Ghent, where he was one of the founders was the Hoger Instituut voor Godsdienstwetenschappen. He served as the editorial secretary of ''Collationes'', a Flemish magazine of pastoral theology, and wrote numerous articles on the exegesis of the New Testament. On 3 July 1980 he was appointed the 21st Bishop of Antwerp by Pope John Paul II (the third bishop of the re-established Diocese of Antwerp) and consecrated on 7 September 1980. Arthur Luysterman
Arthur Luysterman (born 18 March 1932) is a Belgian Roman Catholic Bishop. He served as the twenty-ninth Bishop of Ghent between 1991 and 2003. Life Arthur Luysterman was born in Meerbeke, a village in the intensively developed countryside between Ghent and Brussels. He was the eldest of his parents' four children. He attended school locally, obtaining a grounding in Graeco-Latin humanities at the St Aloysius College in Ninove and Our Lady's College, Dendermonde before abandoning an earlier ambition to become a lawyer and entering the seminary of Ghent in 1950: he was ordained into the priesthood on 26 August 1956. Aloys Jousten (2 November 1937 – 20 September 2021) was a bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Liège in Belgium. Jousten was born in Sankt-Vith on 2 November 1937, and ordained priest in Liège on 8 July 1962. He held the degree of Doctor of Theology. André-Joseph Léonard (born 6 May 1940) is a Belgian prelate who served as the Archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels and Primate of Belgium after his installation on 27 February 2010. He had previously served as Bishop of Namur from 1991 until 2010 under the name André-Mutien Léonard. Pope Francis accepted his resignation on 1 June 2015. Godfried Maria Jules Danneels (4 June 1933 – 14 March 2019) was a Belgian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.
