England at the 2002 Commonwealth Games was represented by the Commonwealth Games Council for England (CGCE). England joined the Commonwealth of Nations as part of the United Kingdom in 1931. The team that attended the games in Manchester was the largest fielded up to that point, comprising 444 competitors and 221 officials. Commonwealth Games England
Commonwealth Games England (CGE) is the national Commonwealth Games Association for England. The council is responsible for supporting and managing the participation of England at the Commonwealth Games, Team England at the Commonwealth Games'. Michael Jones (hammer Thrower)
Michael David Jones (born 23 July 1963 in London, Greater London) is a male retired English athlete who competed in the hammer throw. Athletics career Jones competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics finishing in 22nd place. He appeared at five Commonwealth Games. He represented England at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland and eight years later represented England, at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. A third games appearance ensued representing England, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he won a silver medal in the hammer. Joanne Goode
Joanne Gwendoline "Jo" Goode MBE (née Wright; born 17 November 1972) is a former English badminton player. She represented Great Britain at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games, and won the 2000 mixed doubles bronze medal with Simon Archer. Goode also won seven gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, a gold at the European Championships, and a silver at the World Championships. Career Goode competed in badminton at the 2000 Summer Olympics in mixed doubles with Simon Archer and won a bronze medal. She also played in women's doubles with Donna Kellogg losing in the quarterfinals against Gao Ling and Qi Yiyuan. Archer and Goode won gold medals twice at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and 2002. Simon Archer (badminton)
Simon David Archer MBE (born 27 June 1973) is an English former badminton player. Archer once held the world record for the fastest smash at 162 mph. Career Summer Olympics Archer competed in badminton at the 1996 Summer Olympics in doubles, with Chris Hunt. They were knocked out in the quarterfinals. In 2000 he coupled with Nathan Robertson, but they too lost in the quarterfinals, this time to Tony Gunawan and Candra Wijaya of Indonesia. However, Archer also competed in mixed doubles with Joanne Goode and won a bronze medal. Commonwealth Games He represented England and won double silver in the mixed doubles and men's doubles event and was a member of the mixed team that won the gold medal, at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada. Badminton At The 2002 Commonwealth Games
The badminton competition at the 2002 Commonwealth Games took place at the Bolton Arena in Manchester, England from 25 July until 4 August 2002. There were no bronze medal play off matches because both losing semi-finalists were awarded a bronze medal. This was the only time that the scoring system of 7 points / 5 sets was used for a Commonwealth Games badminton event. Jared Mark Deacon (born 15 October 1975) is a male British former sprint athlete who specialised in the 400 metres. He was born in South Shields and competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics. Athletics career He was a regular feature in the international British 4×400 metres relay team, competing at the 1999 World Championships in Athletics, the 2003 IAAF World Indoor Championships and was also a three-time relay medallist at the Summer Universiade from 1995 to 1999. Sean Michael Baldock (born 3 December 1976) is a male British former sprinter who competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics and in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Athletics career He was born in Hastings, East Sussex. He only became a serious athlete in 1996 having joined Hastings Athletic Club as an under-11 athlete in 1987. Prior to that he had played football, eventually playing for Hastings Town. When he reached 18, because he was always getting injured, he was forced to make a choice between football and athletics, world class athlete. Jason Carl Gardener, (born 18 September 1975) is a retired British sprint athlete. A fast starter from the blocks, he won an Olympic gold medal leading off Great Britain in the 4 x 100 metres relay at the 2004 Olympic Games, and is also the 2004 World Indoor Champion, and a four-time European Indoor champion, at 60 metres. Marlon Devonish
Marlon Ronald Devonish, (born 1 June 1976) is an English former sprinter who competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres. A prodigious relay runner with particular strength as a 'bend' runner, Devonish ran the third leg for the Great Britain quartet which won the 4 x 100 metres at the 2004 Olympic Games, and won four World Championship medals in the same event in 1999, 2005, 2007 and 2009.
