Engadine Sheep
The Red Engadine or Engadine Red is a traditional Swiss breed of Domestic Sheep, domestic sheep from the Lower Engadine valley and some neighbouring parts of Bavaria and Tyrol (state), Tyrol. It derives from cross-breeding of stock of Bergamasca sheep, Bergamasca and Alpines Steinschaf type. It is characterised by its convex profile, its fox-red wool and its long lop ears. In the 1980s it became gravely rare breed (agriculture), endangered, but has since recovered. It is a hardy mountain sheep; the hooves are strong and hard, and the breed is one of the few that are reported to have good resistance to foot rot. Hans Haid
Hans Haid (26 February 1938 – 5 February 2019) was an Austrian folklorist, mountain farmer and dialect poet. Life Born in Längenfeld, Ötztal, Haid was a clerk, took the external Matura in 1963 and then studied folklore and history of art at the University of Vienna, which he completed in 1974 with a doctorate. He wrote his dissertation on the custom in the Ötztal and its tourism-related changes. He lived for a time in Heiligkreuz in the near Sölden, on the "Roale" farm at an altitude of 1680 m, and latterly in his birthplace of Längenfeld. Haid was one of the best-known and most controversial personalities of the Ötztal. Haid was married to the folk music researcher Gerlinde Haid (1943-2012).
