__NOTOC__ Encounter Bay is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about south of the state capital of Adelaide and about south-west of the municipal seat of Victor Harbor. It consists of land at the western end of Encounter Bay partly overlooking the subsidiary bay of Rosetta Harbor and which includes the headland of Rosetta Head (commonly known as ''The Bluff''). State Route B37 passes through the locality under the names of ''Waitpinga Road'' and ''Bay Road'', and forms part of the locality's boundary to the north-west. Encounter Bay's boundaries were created on 9 September 1993 for the "local established name". Land use is mainly residential with some land adjoining the suburb of Victor Harbor in the north-east being zoned for "light industry" and land at the locality's southern extremity being zoned for "primary industry". Encounter Bay Football Club
The Encounter Bay Football Club, nicknamed the Eagles, is an Australian rules football club based in Encounter Bay, South Australia, that plays in the Great Southern Football League (South Australia), Great Southern Football League. Club history Australian rules football on the Fleurieu Peninsula dates back to the 1860s–1870s, when the Goolwa Football Club was established in 1878. Matches were organised between local towns on a 'friendly' basis. Following this period, it was thought that a stable league should be created to oversee the competition. That league was named The Great Southern Football League; Encounter Bay joined the league two years after the club's founding, in 1921. The County of Hindmarsh is one of the 49 cadastral counties of South Australia. It was proclaimed by Governor George Grey in 1842 and named for Governor John Hindmarsh.
