ENCORE School For Strings
Encore School for Strings, founded in 1985 by David and Linda Cerone, was the summer session of the Cleveland Institute of Music. It was located in Hudson, Ohio at the Western Reserve Academy. Encore had no minimum age requirement, though a taped audition was used to screen applicants. The music faculty was world-renowned, with teachers from top U.S. music schools including the Cleveland Institute of Music, Curtis Institute of Music, and the Colburn School. David Cerone
David Cerone was a co-founder of the ENCORE School for Strings, where he co-directed and served as faculty member since 1985. Mr. Cerone serves as a juror for many prominent national and international violin competitions and presents master classes around the world. An active chamber musician, he toured extensively with the Canterbury Trio from 1984 to 1989, under Columbia Artist Management. He was a Director of the Meadowmount School of Music and member of its faculty for 19 summers. Mr. Cerone is a board member of University Circle, Inc. and the Avery Fisher Artist Program. He is an Auxiliary Director of the International Board of the Suzuki Association. He was Professor of Violin at Oberlin Conservatory from 1962 to 1971 and Chairman of the String Department and Kulas Professor at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) from 1971 to 1981. Soovin Kim
Soovin Kim (born 1976) is a Korean American violinist. Early life Kim was born in Iowa City, Iowa on April 10, 1976 to South Korean parents who had met and married in Korea, then moved to the U.S. together. When Kim was 2, his family moved to Bolingbrook, Illinois. Two years later his brother Marvin was born. Though no member of Kim's family was involved in music (his mother is a registered dietician, while his father is a communications professor), as a young boy he enjoyed listening to classical violin recordings at home with his mother. Soon, Kim asked for violin lessons, as had his friend Jennifer Koh and a number of his other friends around the same time. Jascha Brodsky
Jascha Brodsky (June 6, 1907 – March 3, 1997) was a Russian-American violinist and teacher. Born in Kharkiv, in the Kharkov Governorate of the Russian Empire (in present-day Ukraine), he began his violin studies with his violinist father at the age of six. He later studied at the conservatory in Tbilisi, Georgia, and by 1926, was performing successfully all over the Soviet Union. That same year, he went to Paris to study with Lucien Capet. There he also played for Sergei Prokofiev ( Violin Concerto No. 1) and performed with pianist Vladimir Horowitz and violinists Nathan Milstein and Mischa Elman. Soon thereafter, he moved again, to Belgium to study with the legendary Eugène Ysaÿe. In 1930 he moved to America to study with Efrem Zimbalist at the Curtis Institute of Music. James Zuill Bailey, better known as Zuill Bailey (born 1972) is a Grammy Award-winning American cellist, chamber musician, and artistic director.
