Emmer Green (Reading Ward)
Emmer Green is an electoral ward of the Borough of Reading, in the English county of Berkshire. Until the 2022 Reading Borough Council election, it was known as Peppard ward and had slightly different boundaries. Extent The ward is north and north-east of the commercial centre of the suburb of Caversham, namely its Thames and Caversham wards. It covers all of Emmer Green including wholly residential and smaller 'Caversham Park Village' which is not marked on many maps. It includes a small proportion of Caversham proper, which was until the early 20th century the parish of (and had the main amenities of) Emmer Green. They have some interdependence to this day, such as in education, voluntary and sporting organisations, small shops and supermarkets. The proportion of socially rented housing has consistently been lower than the borough average in the 2001 and 2011 censuses and is mentioned in the Emmer Green and Caversham articles. Caversham, Berkshire
Caversham is a suburb of Reading, England. Originally a village founded in the Middle Ages, it lies on the north bank of the River Thames, opposite the rest of Reading. Caversham Bridge, Reading Bridge, Christchurch Bridge, and Caversham Lock provide crossing points (the last two for pedestrians only), with Sonning Bridge also available a few miles east of Caversham. Caversham has at Caversham Court foundations of a medieval house, a herb garden and tree-lined park open to the public at no charge. 2014 Reading Borough Council Election
Elections to Reading Borough Council took place on 22 May 2014, with 15 council seats up for election. The Labour Party repeated their wins of 2012 gaining Church, Katesgrove, Redlands, Kentwood and Caversham wards, giving them a total of 31 Councillors. The Conservative Party lost three seats but gained Peppard ward from an independent. The Liberal Democrats lost two seats but held Tilehurst ward. The Green Party held Park ward including a by-election caused by the resignation of one of their Councillors. UKIP stood a record number of candidates at the election but failed to gain any council seats. The elections were held on the same day as the 2014 European Elections. The Labour Party gained Church, Katesgrove, Redlands, Kentwood and Caversham wards, giving them a working majority and control of the council. The Liberal Democrats lost two seats but held Tilehurst ward, a seat they had lost the previous year to the Conservative Party. 2011 Reading Borough Council Election
Elections to Reading Borough Council took place on Thursday 5 May 2011. There were 15 seats up for election, one third of the council. The election meant that the council continued to have no overall control but a Labour led minority administration replaced the previous Conservative Liberal Democrat coalition. The posts of leader of the council and mayor were filled at a meeting of the council on 25 May 2011. Labour member Deborah Edwards was elected mayor on the casting vote of outgoing mayor, Gul Khan. Caversham Park Village
Caversham Park Village is a suburb of Reading, England. It is entirely residential and associated with Emmer Green, which has the closest amenities — much of it is marked as Emmer Green. Both are upland areas of the former enlarged form of Caversham, now suburbs of Reading. Whilst the area has no formal boundaries, it generally refers to the residential area constructed on part of the former grounds of Caversham Park, to the eastern side of Caversham and adjoining the border with Oxfordshire.Ordnance Survey (2006). Emmer Green is the northernmost suburb of Reading, Berkshire, Reading in the England, English county of Berkshire within the unitary authority, centred north of the town. Having most of its own commerce, sport and other amenities, Emmer Green has an arbitrary divide with larger Caversham, Reading, Caversham and a border with Oxfordshire, the county in which both places formerly stood. Thames (Reading Ward)
Thames is an electoral ward of the Borough of Reading, in the English county of Berkshire. It includes areas on both sides of both the River Thames and the River Kennet, to the north and east of the centre of Reading on the south bank, and to the east of the centre of Caversham on the north bank. It should not be confused with the ward of the same name that existed prior to the 2022 Reading Borough Council election, with which it has no area in common.
