Andrew Embley
Andrew Embley (born 27 June 1981) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is known for winning the Norm Smith Medal as the best player in the 2006 AFL Grand Final. Embley was born in Perth and began his career with in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). He was recruited by West Coast with the 57th pick in the 1998 National Draft. Embley made his debut in the first match of the 1999 season, and was an AFL Rising Star nominee the following year. In 2004, he represented Australia in the International Rules Series. Embley was one of West Coast's vice-captains between 2004 and 2006, and played a key part in West Coast's victory over in the 2006 AFL Grand Final. He was awarded the Norm Smith Medal as the best player on the ground. Embley retired at the end of the 2013 season after 250 games for the club. Edward Henry Embley
Edward Henry Embley (28 February 1861 – 9 May 1924) was an Australian physician who studied the effects of chloroform on the human body. Embley was born at Castlemaine, Victoria, younger son of Richard Edward Embley, a baker, and his wife Mary, ''née'' Smith, who both came from Gloucestershire, England. He was educated at Castlemaine Grammar School, the Bendigo High School and the University of Melbourne, where he graduated M.B., B.S. in 1889. Embley is a small village in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England in the United Kingdom. Its nearest town is Romsey, which lies approximately 3.5 miles (4.8 km) east from the village. It is in the civil parish of Wellow. Devil's Water
Devil's Water is a river in Northumberland, England. A tributary of the River Tyne, it joins that river from the south, near the village of Dilston about south-west of Corbridge. It is formed from the waters of several smaller burns and sikes between Embley and Hackford some south of Hexham. Its tributaries include the Rowley Burn and West Dipton Burn. Devil's Water is of historical interest, figuring in the Battle of Hexham. Embley Park
Embley Park, in Wellow (near Romsey, Hampshire), was the family home of Florence Nightingale from 1825 until her death in 1910. It is also where Florence Nightingale claimed she had received her divine calling from God. It is now the location of Embley, a co-educational independent school for 3-18 year olds. Embley was known as Hampshire Collegiate School until September 2019. Embley River
The Embley River is a river located in Far North Queensland, Australia. The headwaters of the river rise on the coastal plain of the Cape York Peninsula and flow in a north westerly direction eventually discharging at Evans Landing into Albatross Bay near Nanum just south of Weipa and into the Gulf of Carpentaria. The river has a catchment area of of which an area of is composed of estuarine wetlands. From source to mouth, the Embley River is joined by five tributaries including the Hey River. The Embley River descends over its course. The river was named in 1895 by John Douglas after the surveyor, John Thomas Embley (1858-1937), while Douglas was Government Resident on Thursday Island.
