Embassy Of Kazakhstan In Washington, D.C.
The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Washington, D.C. is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United States. It is located at 1401 16th Street Northwest, Washington, D.C. in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. The embassy house is a spacious, brick, Richardsonian-style house, featuring a massive hip roof, prominent chimneys and a distinctive round corner tower built in 1888. The house was designed and built by Charles and Samuel Edmonston for Susan Shields, the widow of a wealthy newspaper publisher. The house used to be the home of American Vice President James S. Sherman, the 27th Vice President of the United States. Outside the house stands a smaller version of the Golden Warrior Monument which celebrates Kazakhstan's independence. The ambassador is Yerzhan Ashikbayev and was preceded by Erzhan Kazykhanov. Yerzhan Ashikbayev
Yerzhan Ashikbayev ( kk, Ержан Ашықбаев, ''Erjan Ashyqbaev''; born in Almaty) was appointed in April 2021 the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United States. He served previously as the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan since 2013. Previously, he served as Deputy Head of the Prime Minister's office, Head of Foreign Policy at the office of the President, and Head of the Foreign Minister's Chancellery. 16th Street Northwest is a prominent north–south thoroughfare in the northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C. Part of Pierre L'Enfant's design for the city, 16th Street begins just north of the White House across Lafayette Park at H Street and continues due north in a straight line passing K Street, Scott Circle, Meridian Hill Park, Rock Creek Park, and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center before crossing Eastern Avenue into Silver Spring, Maryland, where it ends at Georgia Avenue. Dupont Circle (or DuPont Circle) is a traffic circle, park, neighborhood and historic district in Northwest Washington, D.C. The Dupont Circle neighborhood is bounded approximately by 16th Street NW to the east, 22nd Street NW to the west, M Street NW to the south, and Florida Avenue NW to the north. Much of the neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. However, the local government Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC 2B) and the Dupont Circle Historic District have slightly different boundaries. Erzhan Hozeuly Kazykhanov (born 21 August 1964) is a Kazakh politician who serves as diplomat. Kazykhanov holds a newly created position in the presidential administration with the title of Special Representative for International Cooperation. The United States and the Republic of Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations on December 16, 1991. The United States opened its embassy in Almaty in January 1992 and then relocated to Astana in 2006.
