The Embassy of Azerbaijan in London is the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992 and the Azeri embassy in London established in 1994. The current ambassador is Elin Suleymanov. South Kensington
South Kensington, nicknamed Little Paris, is a district just west of Central London in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Historically it settled on part of the scattered Middlesex village of Brompton. Its name was supplanted with the advent of the railways in the late 19th century and the opening (and shutting) and naming of local tube stations. The area has many museums and cultural landmarks with a high number of visitors, such as the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Adjacent affluent centres such as Knightsbridge, Chelsea and Kensington, have been considered as some of the most exclusive real estate in the world. A diplomatic mission or foreign mission is a group of people from a state or organization present in another state to represent the sending state or organization officially in the receiving or host state. In practice, the phrase usually denotes an embassy, which is the main office of a country's diplomatic representatives to another country; it is usually, but not necessarily, based in the receiving state's capital city. Elin Emin oglu Suleymanov ( az, Elin Emin oğlu Süleymanov) is the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Kingdom and former Ambassador of Republic of Azerbaijan to the United States. Early years A career diplomat, Suleymanov was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. He has graduated with bachelor's degrees in Geography from Azerbaijan State University in 1989, in Political Geography from Moscow State University in Russia in 1992, Master's degree in Public Administration from University of Toledo in Ohio in 1994. He also holds a graduate degree from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy with emphasis on international security studies and public international law. He was the first Azerbaijani to study at Fletcher School. Azerbaijani () or Azeri (), also referred to as Azeri Turkic or Azeri Turkish, is a Turkic language from the Oghuz sub-branch spoken primarily by the Azerbaijani people, who live mainly in the Republic of Azerbaijan where the North Azerbaijani variety is spoken, and in the Azerbaijan region of Iran, where the South Azerbaijani variety is spoken. The state emblem of Azerbaijan ( az, Azərbaycan gerbi) mixes traditional and modern symbols. The focal point of the emblem is a stylized flame. The flame is in the shape of the word "Allah" written in Arabic () to represent the country's majority-Muslim population. As well as a reference to Azerbaijan's eternal natural oil-gas resources, which has given it the nickname "land of eternal fire". The emblem is supported by a crossed stalk of wheat and an oak bough. Strong foreign relations exist between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom. The Embassy of United Kingdom in Baku opened in 1992. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in London opened in 1994. Both countries are members of the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. The first Azerbaijani diplomatic body, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was established in 1918 when Azerbaijan became a republic and Mammad Hasan Hajinski was appointed the first Foreign Affairs minister. The parliament sent a diplomatic delegation to the Ottoman Empire and thus, Turkey became the first country to recognize Azerbaijan's independence, followed by Iran. Azerbaijan was represented at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919. In 1920, the country came under Soviet control and could no longer pursue independent foreign policy. In 1991, after the fall of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan regained its independence and established bilateral relations with other countries.
