Elza Van Lingen
Elizabeth Christina "Elza" van Lingen (née Greeff; 26 November 1949 – 19 April 2018) was a South African politician. A member of the Democratic Alliance, she was elected a councillor of the Cacadu District Municipality in 2002. She was elected to the National Council of Provinces in 2009. Van Lingen became leader of the DA caucus in the NCOP in 2011, and was re-elected to the NCOP in 2014. From 2016 until her death, she served as the mayor of the Kouga Local Municipality. Early life and career Van Lingen was born and grew up in Willowmore. She was employed as a public relations officer for KWV where she met Michael, her future husband. She married Michael and they ran a merino stud farm in Middelburg in the Eastern Cape, and farmed livestock and game. Kouga Local Municipality
The Kouga Local Municipality is located in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, approximately 80 km west of Port Elizabeth, and forms part of the Sarah Baartman District Municipality. Its territory includes the coastal zone between the Van Stadens River in the east and the Tsitsikamma River in the west, and stretches inland towards the Baviaanskloof Mountains in the north. Regional access to the area is obtained via the N2 National Route from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town. It is often regarded as the cleanest municipality in the Eastern Cape. Watty Watson
Armiston "Watty" Watson (26 November 1944 – 12 October 2014) was a South African politician and Democratic Alliance stalwart. He served as the Chief Whip of the Official Opposition in the National Assembly from 2011 to 2014 under the leadership of Lindiwe Mazibuko. He was first elected to Parliament in 1994 as an MP for the National Party of South Africa. Watson was a founding member of the Democratic Alliance and served as the party's leader in the National Council of Provinces prior to being selected as Chief Whip of the party's National Assembly caucus. Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is cancer that develops from breast tissue. Signs of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in breast shape, dimpling of the skin, milk rejection, fluid coming from the nipple, a newly inverted nipple, or a red or scaly patch of skin. In those with distant spread of the disease, there may be bone pain, swollen lymph nodes, shortness of breath, or yellow skin. Risk factors for developing breast cancer include obesity, a lack of physical exercise, alcoholism, hormone replacement therapy during menopause, ionizing radiation, an early age at first menstruation, having children late in life or not at all, older age, having a prior history of breast cancer, and a family history of breast cancer. 2016 South African Municipal Elections
The 2016 South African municipal elections were held on 3 August 2016, to elect councils for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces. It was the fifth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994; municipal elections are held every five years. The ruling African National Congress (ANC) was the largest party overall, earning 53.9% of the total vote. It was followed by the official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) with 26.9% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) with 8.2%. 2014 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on 7 May 2014, to elect a new National Assembly and new provincial legislatures in each province. It was the fifth election held in South Africa under conditions of universal adult suffrage since the end of the apartheid era in 1994, and also the first held since the death of Nelson Mandela. It was also the first time that South African expatriates were allowed to vote in a South African national election. The National Assembly election was won by the African National Congress (ANC), but with a reduced majority of 62.1%, down from 65.9% in the 2009 election. The official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) increased its share of the vote from 16.7% to 22.2%, while the newly formed Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) obtained 6.4% of the vote.
