Elwood Glover's Luncheon Date
''Elwood Glover's Luncheon Date'' was a Canadian television talk show series which aired on CBC Television from 1963 to 1975. Elwood Glover had hosted noon-time programming on CBC Radio from 1956. A new studio was set up at the Four Seasons Hotel, near the CBC broadcast headquarters on Jarvis Street in Toronto. The following year, ''Luncheon Date'' made its CBC television debut while the audio portion was simultaneously broadcast on CBC Radio. ''Luncheon Date'' featured Leon Mangoff as announcer and sidekick. Glover announced in February 1975 that he would leave the programme, after conducting more than 10 000 interviews. Glover had worked for the CBC a total of 37 years at that point, but wanted to continue with the CBC in a less intensive role. Glover left the CBC on 1 June 1975 for a weekend host job at CKEY radio (the station today is dispersed as CHKT and CJCL). Elwood Glover
William Elwood Glover (11 May 1915 - 14 November 1990) was a Canadian radio and television broadcaster who was best known as host of '' Elwood Glover's Luncheon Date''. Born in Carmel, Saskatchewan on 11 May 1915, Glover began his 46-year broadcasting career in the city near his home town, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan at a 250 watt radio station (CHAB) for $5 a week. From there he moved on to Toronto in 1938 to be one of the six staff announcers at CBC. He would remain at the CBC for the next 35 years. In 1939, he covered the Royal tour of King George VI and was the CBC's chief announcer during World War II. Following the war, Glover was the host of ''At Ease with Elwood Glover'', an afternoon drive show on CBC radio in the 1950s and 1960s. CHKT (1430 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The station, owned by the Fairchild Group service, airs mainly Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese programs as well as weekend shows in the following languages: Cambodian, Filipino, German, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Korean, Lao, Macedonian, Polish, Punjabi, Russian, Thai and Vietnamese.
