Melville Hatch
Melville Harrison Hatch (1898–1988) was an American entomologist who specialized in the study of beetles. His long career at the University of Washington was highlighted by the publication of the seminal, five-volume work ''Beetles of the Pacific Northwest''. Hatch is responsible for the identification and naming of 13 species. Early life and education Melville Hatch was born in Detroit, Michigan and attended Detroit Central High School. The Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS) is an American partnership of federal agencies designed to provide consistent and reliable information on the taxonomy of biological species. ITIS was originally formed in 1996 as an interagency group within the US federal government, involving several US federal agencies, and has now become an international body, with Canadian and Mexican government agencies participating.
