Ellisiv Steen
Ellisiv Andrea Steen (4 February 1908 – 27 October 2001) was a Norwegian professor and literary researcher. Biography She was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. She was the daughter of Harald Buch (1872–1950) and Camilla Collett (1878–1973) and a sister of art historian Ada Polak. In 1933 she married professor and historian Sverre Steen. Her master's thesis was a study of English writer and philosopher Aldous Huxley. She gained her Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Oslo in 1948; the subject of her doctoral thesis was a treatment on the authorship of Norwegian writer Camilla Collett. She was a fellow of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters from 1955, and appointed professor at the University of Oslo in 1972. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991). He was the older brother of politician Ingvar Lars Helle. The family moved to Hetland when Knut Helle was seventeen years old. He took the examen artium in Stavanger in 1949, and a teacher's education in Kristiansand in 1952. He studied philology in Oslo and Bergen, and graduated with the cand.philol. degree in 1957. An academy (Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary or tertiary higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership). The name traces back to Plato's school of philosophy, founded approximately 385 BC at Akademia, a sanctuary of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, north of Athens, Greece. Etymology The word comes from the ''Academy'' in ancient Greece, which derives from the Athenian hero, ''Akademos''. Outside the city walls of Athens, the gymnasium was made famous by Plato as a center of learning. is the largest Norwegian biographical encyclopedia. The first edition (NBL1) was issued between 1921 and 1983, including 19 volumes and 5,100 articles. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. During the Viking Age the area was part of Viken.
