''Ellery Queen and the Murder Ring'' is a 1941 American mystery film directed by James P. Hogan and written by Eric Taylor and Gertrude Purcell. It is based on the 1931 novel ''The Dutch Shoe Mystery'' by Ellery Queen. The film stars Ralph Bellamy, Margaret Lindsay, Charley Grapewin, Mona Barrie, Paul Hurst and James Burke, George Zucco and Blanche Yurka. The film was released on November 18, 1941, by Columbia Pictures. Dennis Moore (born Dennis Meadows; January 26, 1908 – March 1, 1964) was an actor who specialized in Western films and film serials. Early years Moore was born Dennis Meadows in Fort Worth, Texas, and attended schools in El Paso. He was active in aviation and had a pilot's license. Before going into films, he worked in stock theater. A plane crash nearly ended his life. After more than a year spent in a hospital and two additional years of recovery, he could not pass the physical examination for a pilot's license, so he chose to change from aviation to acting. Olin Ross Howland (February 10, 1886 – September 20, 1959) was an American film and theatre actor. Life and career Howland was born in Denver, Colorado, to Joby A. Howland, one of the youngest enlisted participants in the Civil War, and Mary C. Bunting. His sister was stage actress Jobyna Howland. From 1909 to 1927, Howland appeared on Broadway in musicals, occasionally performing in silent films. Jean Fenwick (born Sigfreda Harriet Krauth; May 30, 1907 — December 5, 1998) was an American actress born in Trinidad. Early life Fenwick was born in Trinidad in 1907, the older sister of Violet Ethelred Krauth (who became actress Marian Marsh) and Anthony Edward Krauth (who also acted, under the name "Tony Marsh").
